The cost of a human being is at an all-time low.

In the 1800s, the average cost of a slave was ~$5,200 USD in today's dollars, with the cost as high as $30,000 for a young, healthy male slave sold in the American south.

Today, the average cost is ~$550, with some people's lives being sold for as little as $5.

What has changed?

1) A sharp increase in the total number of people living in poverty and other vulnerable conditions.

2) Cheaper and faster transportation, which allows slaves to be transported with ease.

There is now a nearly limitless supply of potential slaves who can be quickly acquired and transported. This global subclass consists of 50 million people and is rapidly growing.
