Joe Bernstein, a reporter for Buzzfeed news, has come under fire after calling for the murder of straight white men on Twitter.

In a since-deleted tweet, Bernstein urged people to “kill a straight white man on your way to work tomorrow” in response to a New Republic article outlining how white, middle-class men need to be “dethroned” in American society.

BuzzFeed editor Joe Bernstein has just issued a public apology for a Tweet sent out last year:

KILL a straight white man on your way to work tomorrow.​

He claims that the Tweet was never meant to be taken seriously and was instead an attempt at nuanced sarcastic irony, gently poking fun at woke media articles owned by white men, and that if we didn't get it, we need to brush up on our subtle humor, blah, blah, blah. He would also like to remind us all that his Tweet is obviously facetious, as he is a white man and would thus die if it was implemented.
He goes on to say that he has been the target of anti-Semitic harassment, death threats and persistent attacks from right wing trolls and has thus deleted that Tweet of his own volition. He hopes he has everyone's support in this trying time, as being a Jewish journalist in the age of anti-Semitism online is incredibly trying.
He concludes by lamenting that journalists are contacting him about his Tweet, and that he wants to clear the air on Twitter, "to which [he] owes so little and selflessly gives so much". So, we by no means deserve the deep generosity of his apology. You're welcome, everyone.
