Anarchism

The first time I read Emma Goldman it wasn’t in a book, I was 16 playing in the alleys of my Bronx neighborhood and I read the quote on the alleyway wall in red…..when I saw those words it was like someone had ripped them out from the inside of my head….

“Anarchism stands for the liberation of the human mind from the dominion of religion and liberation of the human body from the coercion of property; liberation from the shackles and restraint of government. It stands for a social order based on the free grouping of individuals” by Emma Goldman

…the concept was pure, simple and true, it inspired me, lit a rebellious fire within me and became part of my soul but ultimately and unfortunately I learned the lesson that Goldman, Purdon and the others learned that true freedom requires sacrifice and pain, most human beings only think they want freedom, in truth they yearn for the bondage of social order, rigid laws and materialism. The only freedom man really wants is the freedom to be comfortable, to let his mind unknowingly become conditioned and unknowingly and unfortunately become his prison.
