The Granny Unit

We built this granny unit 10 years ago for my wife’s parents.

It is on our property next to our house.

This came out of our desire to have her parents next to us when they got older and they needed help.

It worked out just as we hoped.

The grandparents were able to enjoy the grandkids every day from their porch on our driveway.

Multiple generations were able to interact.

It was very sweet.

A few years after we finished it her mom got sick and passed away.

One year ago her dad got sick and passed away as well.

In both cases we were able to care for them close by and surround them with family.

They spent very little time in the hospital.

Our kids helped take care of them as well.

It seemed like the way it should be.

I hope it will continue for the next generation as well.
