    Deathbed Confession of Ron Wyatt, Discoverer of the Ark of the Covenant

    “Has the Ark of the Covenant been found?

    An archeologist who claims to have found the Ark of the Covenant directly below the crucifixion site of Jesus Christ has died after giving a deathbed interview to WorldNetDaily. Noah’s Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah, the Ark of the Covenant, the crucifixion site of Jesus Christ, and more have been the subject of controversial claims made by an archeologist who spent much of his life documenting sites and events from the Bible.

    Ron Wyatt died after a lengthy battle with cancer last Wednesday, but his quest to provide information that would lead to more people accepting the teachings of the Bible continues at Wyatt Archeological Research, a non-profit, non-denominational organization in Tennessee.

    Reached just before his death, the telephone interview with Wyatt was to last only a few minutes because of his very weak condition. He actually spoke for nearly an hour. A few days later, Wyatt succumbed to the disease.

    The evidence of the various finds Wyatt claimed to have made has been debated by religious leaders, scholars and lay people, for at least a decade. There are many who believe his findings are genuine, and there are a few who are not so willing to accept his claims.

    According to Wyatt, he was able to physically locate the Ark of the Covenant, the container for the original tablets of the Ten Commandments, with the Mercy Seat intact on the top. It was found in a chamber just outside the walls of ancient Jerusalem about 20 feet below what Wyatt also claimed was the actual site of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

    Wyatt said he found an earthquake crack directly below where the cross would have been. It extends down through the rock to the resting place of the Mercy Seat atop the Ark of the Covenant, he told WorldNetDaily. The blood of Christ would have flowed through that crack after his death and after his side was pierced by a soldier’s spear.

    The site of the crucifixion appears to have evidence that it was once enclosed in a first century building, apparently a church. The site includes a large round stone which perfectly fits the Garden Tomb — accepted by many as the place from which the body of Christ rose from the dead.

    The Bible teaches the concept of sacrifice of animals, symbolic of the actual blood sacrifice Christ would make. The act of Christ, regarded by some as the great High Priest, permitting himself to be sacrificed and placing his own blood upon the Mercy Seat was the great and final act in the process of blood sacrifice, according to the writings of Wyatt.

    Wyatt believed that the Ark of the Covenant, along with other sacred objects from the first Temple in Jerusalem, were all secreted away just prior to the entrance of the Babylonians into the city about 600 years before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. There are many tunnels beneath Jerusalem even to this day. These most sacred objects were protected in a chamber and the entrance was sealed and hidden.

    “When Christ died, the earth quaked. The rock was split right below His cross and this crevice extended right down into the hidden chamber which contained the undefiled ‘earthly’ Throne of God — the Ark with its Mercy Seat,” explained Wyatt in one of his research letters. “After He was dead, when the centurion stuck his spear into Christ’s side and pierced His spleen, the blood and water came out, falling down through that crack and was sprinkled on the Mercy Seat.”

    Wyatt explained that in the former Temple service, the high priest sprinkled the blood of the sacrifice on the Mercy Seat. Wyatt said Christ, as the great High Priest, was the only one who could physically sprinkle the blood on the Mercy Seat. It was an act of God that everything was in the right place, and that there was an earthquake which enabled Christ to spill his own blood onto the Mercy Seat in fulfillment of this ancient rite, he explained.

    Wyatt did not make any claims of grandeur, nor did he claim to be a prophet. He said his only role was to be a willing servant.

    “God has a way of communicating his wishes to people, and I’m not the only one able to do that so I don’t flatter myself to think that I’m something special. I was there, I was willing, so therefore God allowed me this privilege. There are others who are in communication with him. There are others who are familiar with this material who will see that it is presented,” Wyatt told WorldNetDaily by phone just before his death, indicating that more of his evidence and findings will soon be made public.

    It was back on Jan. 6, 1982 when Ron Wyatt realized what he had found during the excavation of the Ark of the Covenant.

    “I just went from stunned to more stunned I guess,” he described . “When I started making the excavation I wasn’t looking for the Ark of the Covenant. I had no idea or intent to be looking for the crucifixion site, so as I proceeded with the excavation and found this crucifixion site, it was a thrill and a happy set of circumstances, and I didn’t make the connection with the blood on the mercy seat until I actually saw it.”

    He said the significance of the find took on a new meaning when he actually found the crack which extended from the Mercy Seat all the way up through solid rock to the location he had found above where the crucifixion took place.

    Wyatt claimed that he was authorized to make his excavations by the Antiquities Department, but that bureaucrats within that agency insisted that his findings must be kept secret. He was told that Jewish extremists might view the discovery as a sign that it was time to rebuild the ancient Temple in Jerusalem. The Muslim Dome of the Rock now sits on the site that Jewish fundamentalists believe must one day be destroyed and a new Jewish temple built.

    Wyatt has made public a significant amount of his research and findings, but he has withheld certain documents and photographs to comply with the agreement he made with Israeli officials. His refusal to provide everything resulted in criticism from some.

    The day after the death of Wyatt, one detractor sent an e-mail to WorldNetDaily saying, “The world has lost one of the most colorful charlatans of all time.” He predicted that nothing will ever come of the discoveries and even claimed that Wyatt is not with God now because he must account for his lies.

    “There’s nothing can be done to prevent ridicule that I’m aware of. I don’t think it would be appropriate to deny people the opportunity of using ridicule because I think that’s part of showing their true character,” Wyatt told WorldNetDaily of those who have attacked his claims.

    This discovery of the Ark of the Covenant and the crucifixion site are more important to the non-Christians than to the believing Christians, according to Wyatt. He believes the discovery will help to bring people of other faiths to Christ

    “They’ve been taught something else all their life. So God is doing this show-and-tell through these revelations and these discoveries to prove to them real quick that the Bible is historically accurate and divinely inspired,” Wyatt explained. He quoted from Jeremiah 16:19-22 predicting unbelievers will come from all parts of the earth to learn of the discoveries.

    “Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods,” quoted Wyatt.

    “This last revelation is for the inhabitants of the earth who don’t have a clue, as well as for those of us who do have a clue and have been commissioned by Christ to reach out to help bring these people who don’t have a clue into the fold. So these are tools that God has given the believers to strengthen their faith and to reach out with. They are tools that will be extremely effective in these the last pouring out to the entire population, all inhabitants of the earth,” he explained.

    Wyatt has been involved in a number of significant archeological studies of biblical sites and artifacts. These have included Noah’s Ark, the crossing of the Red Sea by Moses, Mount Sinai, Sodom and Gomorrah, and others. Nothing else has the significance of the Ark of the Covenant and its tie to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, he explained.

    “My personal assessment is that this is the culmination of the whole plan of salvation. I believe it’s the finishing off and the final proof and evidence for what has happened here on this planet. And I think that it’s being presented at a time just before probation’s closed while people can still decide to go along with God,” Wyatt stated.

    WorldNetDaily made contact with sources within the U.S. intelligence community that have been reliable in past investigations. Experts on both Israeli and Muslim politics and beliefs were contacted to determine their assessment on the impact of Wyatt’s discoveries.

    Both sources expressed disbelief that the Israeli government wanted to hide the discovery for the reason they gave Wyatt. Instead both agreed that it was likely the Israelis are concerned that when Jews learn of the connection of the crucifixion site with the Ark of the Covenant there could be large conversions which would threaten Jewish control of the government, assuming that the discoveries are true. Neither source was aware of the discoveries previously.

    WorldNetDaily was not able to convey that assessment to Wyatt prior to his death for his reaction.

    Wyatt did say that he did not expect the Ark of the Covenant would ever be removed from its current resting placed. The access tunnel used by Wyatt’s archeological team has been sealed. The pictures and videos of the find are what he said would soon be shown worldwide.

    “The blood and all of that part will be shown, all of that, on video. The only thing that will be shown typically that people will be able to have a look at and maybe touch, you know I don’t know what the restrictions will be on that, and that’s the tables of stone,” said Wyatt, referring to the tablets containing the Ten Commandments found inside the Ark of the Covenant itself.

    Wyatt said he did not believe the Jews will ever successfully rebuild the Temple because they would want to resume the practice of blood sacrifice within the Temple, something that he says God would not permit to happen.

    “I believe that if they do set about to do a Temple thing, it will be part of Satan’s deception,” he added.
    He said that when the Ark of the Covenant and the Temple furnishings were moved to the hidden chamber, that location became the Temple of the Lord, or the Holy of Holies. It remained untouched and undefiled so that Christ could complete his ultimate sacrifice.

    He is confident they remain where he found them. He does not believe they have been secreted away.
    “Let me say this, and this is a touchy point and I try to avoid it. There’s some 14 to 16 individuals that have died because they have tried to in some way to manipulate this,” he explained without providing the details.

    “Some have had to do with withdrawing a permit and others have had to do with, shall we say, trying to actually get in there and move the furnishings. So I believe that God has adequately demonstrated, at least to me, that He is not going to allow this to be moved. I do know this, and that is that nothing will happen to this that is not in God’s plan because this is the most important part of the plan of salvation that has been carried out. This is it, the heart and soul of it. There’s no way he’s going to allow people, demons, or any other forces to interfere with it being done exactly as he wants it done,” he stated.

    The crucifixion site was found on the side of the Golgotha hill, or Place of the Skull just outside the old north wall of Jerusalem, not far from the Garden Tomb. It was discovered under many feet of soil with actual holes in the rock where crosses were placed, and niches in the rock wall behind where three signs were placed. The large circular stone used to cover the garden tomb was also located there, and it was all surrounded by the foundation of a first century building. The central, main cross hole has an earthquake crack beside it.

    Photographic evidence was obtained, and then the site was covered back over with 12 feet of dirt and a garden established. Wyatt says it was landscaped to avoid controversy. The entrance to the system of caves and tunnels, found by the Wyatt team in the cliff wall was also sealed over.

    In conclusion, Wyatt was asked to describe his spiritual growth since his discoveries. What is the difference in his gospel understanding before the discoveries and since?

    “Basically, getting to know God and complying with his required character changes and all of that. I was experiencing those things, and of course I had a hunger and a thirst. I had a big curiosity. To be perfectly honest that may have outweighed the other consideration and then the difference between what I felt then and now is I believed what the Bible said. I believed what it says to be true, that’s the Authorized King James by the way. However, now I know that what it says is true,” he concluded.

    Wyatt added that it has been his role to do more than just dig up interesting artifacts. He accepted the added responsibility to explain the religious significance of the items he found.

    The Wyatt Archeological Research group maintains a small museum in Tennessee where the evidence and work of Ron Wyatt can be examined and studied. The death of Mr. Wyatt is not expected to stop the effort of telling the world about the findings, according to a spokesman.

Several critics have been found who have voiced their opinion that the work of Wyatt Archaeological Research is fraudulent, but evidence to support those charges cannot be found.

    Jordan Lead Codices

    The Jordan Lead Codices, (sometimes called simply the Jordanian Codices), are a collection of codices allegedly found in a cave in Jordan and first publicized in March 2011. Several scholars have pronounced them fakes. In November 2012 a regional BBC News investigation also pronounced the codices to be fake.

    On 3 March 2011 the Jewish Chronicle ran an article interviewing a metallurgist named Robert Feather, who it stated was trying to authenticate a collection of 20 metal books which, it said, could be linked to the Kabbalah and were in the possession of an Israeli Bedouin farmer named Hassan Saeda, who claimed that they had been found by his great-grandfather in a cave a century ago. It added that a piece of leather from the find had already been carbon dated to 2,000 years ago. The article reported that the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) "absolutely doubted their authenticity", saying the books are a "mixture of incompatible periods and styles without any connection or logic. Such forged motifs can be found in their thousands in the antiquities markets of Jordan and elsewhere in the Middle East". It added that Professor André Lemaire, an epigraphist and director of studies at the École pratique des hautes études, said the inscriptions he has seen make no sense and that it was "a question apparently of sophisticated fakes".[1]

    On 22 March 2011 David Elkington issued a press release stating that a hoard of ancient books made of lead and copper, together with other artefacts, probably dating from the 1st century AD, had been found in Jordan, and that they might predate the writings of St. Paul and that "leading academics" believed they might be as important as the Dead Sea Scrolls.[2] Elkington also stated that the items were discovered 5 years previously in a cave by a Jordanian Bedouin and smuggled into Israel, where they were at risk of sale on the black market or of destruction.[2] The BBC, the Daily Mail and other media outlets quickly picked up the story.

    Elkington stated that the find consisted of "up to 70 ring-bound books (codices) made of lead and copper. Many of them are sealed on all sides. Scrolls, tablets and other artefacts, including an incense bowl, were also found at the same site. Some of the lead pages are written in a form of archaic Hebrew script with ancient messianic symbols. Some of the writing appears to be in a form of code." In the press release he stated that his team included biblical scholars Margaret Barker and Philip R. Davies.[2]

    The BBC version of the story stated that the codices had been found in a cave in Jordan sometime between 2005 and 2007.[3]

    The Daily Telegraph added that metallurgical analysis on the books, and carbon dating on a piece of leather found with the collection, suggested that the books could be about 2,000 years old, although it also questioned whether the find was authentic.[4][5] Elkington, described as a "scholar of ancient religious archaeology who is heading a British team trying to get the lead books safely into a Jordanian museum", claimed that they could be "the major discovery of Christian history", and the director of the Jordan's Department of Antiquities, Ziad al-Saad, said that the books might have been made by followers of Jesus in the few decades immediately following his crucifixion.[3]

    The BBC article said that the books consist of between 5-15 leaves or plates each, about the size of a credit card, made of lead and copper, and bound together with lead rings on one side. Many of the books are also sealed with rings on the remaining three sides. Elkington reported that "In the upper square [of one of the book covers] we have the seven-branch menorah", and the text is said to be in archaic Hebrew script (Paleo Hebrew), and some in "code".[3]

    Davies is reported as noting the presence of a cross, tomb, and city of Jerusalem depicted in the books.[3]
    A news report described Barker as believing that if the artefacts are genuine, they could be Christian texts from as early as 33 AD.[6] A BBC report stated that a line has been translated from the text as "I shall walk uprightly".[3]

    The press release[2] and the BBC report on 29 March 2011 indicated that the Jordanian government would make a claim for the ownership of the collection under the treasure-trove statutes of Jordanian law.

    Further developments

    A number of experts urged skepticism until further investigation could be conducted.[7][8][9][10]

    On 31 March 2011, a letter was published online by Daniel C. Peterson which had been written in 2010 by Elkington. The letter was to Oxford academic Peter Thonemann, sending images of a "copper tablet" and asking for information on Greek text on it. Thonemann replied that the item was a modern forgery, created during the last 50 years in Jordan, because the text copied a truncated tombstone inscription (AD 108/9) from the Archaeological Museum of Amman.[11] Thonemann said that he "would stake [his] career" on his belief that the material had been faked.[12]Professor Jim Davila also published Elkington's letter and Thonemann's reply. In his letter to Thonemann in 2010, Elkington said that he had been told that the codices were from Egypt, not that the material was from Jordan as stated in his press release.[13]
    On 3 April, The Mail on Sunday published an interview with Hassan Saeda, whom it described as a Bedouin trucker, aged 37, including extra images from the material and a story of how they came into his possession. The paper made a claim that a face on one plate "could be" the face of Jesus, but gave no authority for it.[14] On the same day the Sunday Telegraph published an interview with Elkington.[15]

    Also on 3 April 2011, historian William J. Hamblin called into question the Jesus image on the tablet, stating it looked a great deal like images of Helios also found on ancient coins.[16]

    An article in the Daily Telegraph on 3 April 2011 stated that David Elkington was also known as Paul Elkington, and had a book on the codices which literary agent Curtis Brown would be trying to market to publishers at the London Book Fair on 11 April.[17]

    On 4 April 2011, Philip R. Davies posted a statement on Sheffield's Biblical Studies blog suggesting that, while he recognized that the images were modern, the codices were probably not a hoax nor "forgeries".[18]
    On 4 April 2011 an unconfirmed report appeared, dated to 3 April, on the MEMRI Web site quoting Ziyad Al-Sa'd, director-general of Jordan's antiquities authority, as saying that the items were found in Jordan and sold on the black market to an "Israeli antiquities dealer". There was no indication of whether Hassan Saeda was meant here.[19] Questions were also raised by an Aramaic blogger about the authenticity of the script used on the plates.[20]

    Robert Deutsch weighed in on 5 April, arguing that the tablets lacked patina and corrosion and, along with others, he noted that all the iconography and script appeared to come directly from coins dating to multiple periods (Hellenistic, Hasmonean, and Bar Kokhba) in antiquity.[21]

    On 6 April 2011 Peter Thonemann repeated his statements about a letter from Elkington in 2010 in the Times Literary Supplement,.[22]

    On 6 April the Jordan Times published an article describing the codices as a collection of 2,000-year-old manuscripts.[23]

    On 6 April Dr. James E. Deitrick suggested that the image on one of the lead plates is a replica of a 3rd-century mosaic portrait dubbed "The Mona Lisa of the Galilee."[24]

    On 9 April Prof. Jim Davila published the following summary on his PaleoJudaica blog:
    The Greek is lifted nonsensically from an inscription published in 1958. The forger couldn't tell the difference between the Greek letters alpha and lambda. The Hebrew script is taken from the same inscription. The Hebrew text is in "code," i.e., is gibberish. The "Jesus" face is taken from a well-known mosaic. The charioteer is taken from a fake coin. The crocodile has a suspicious resemblance to a plastic toy. This forger was not Professor Moriarty. This forger was a careless bumbler. That makes it all the more galling how readily the media fell for the scam.[25]

    On 11 April the Daily Express reported Thonemann's comments together with a response by David Elkington that Thonemann was not a biblical scholar but a Greek scholar.[26]

    Also on 11 April, Live Science reported that the letter forms were a mixture of old Aramaic and much younger scripts, and that the mixture indicated a modern forgery.[27]

    On 27 April a report appeared on Yahoo via Associated Press that the Jordanian police had seized seven metal codices.[28] Further details appeared in the Jordan Times, with further claims.[29]

    In the July issue of Palestine Exploration Quarterly, Philip R. Davies published an editorial surveying some of the information surrounding the tablets, urging caution and the need for further investigation.[30]

    On 23 August, Prof. Jim Davila noted an anonymous Facebook post purporting to be from "the team" working on the codices alleging that their discoverer has claimed to have produced 500 forgeries in imitation of the "real" artifacts.[31][32]

    On 26 November 2012. BBC News conducted a short investigation about the authenticity of the codices. This was conducted as a short 13 minute segment of Inside Out West (26/11/12) [33] accompanied by a written BBC News Article entitled "Jordan Codices 'expert' David Elkington's claims queried".[34] The program initially focused on the codices authenticity with Dr Peter Thonemann again affirming that "I'm as certain as it is possible to be that this entire body of codices are modern fakes. I would stake my academic reputation on it" adding that "all of the codices that have appeared in the media in the past year or so are products of the same modern workshop — they’ve all sorts of similarities in style, fabric, and content it seems absolutely clear that every single one of these documents is a modern fake".[33] A spokesman for the Israeli Antiquities Authority (IAA) noted "They were shown to experts on the period; all the experts absolutely doubted their authenticity." Author and metals expert Robert Feather was also skeptical.[33]

    The BBC Inside out program shifted focus onto whether David Elkington was the right person to be testing the authenticity of the codices analysing the true intentions, history and qualifications of this "self styled" academic. It emerged that David Elkington is not an academic and has "No recognised qualifications in the field" although previously using the title of Professor.[33] It also emerged that Elkington is "using the codices to raise money to support him in his work"[33] from supporters including Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia who has donated tens of thousands of pounds to Elkington. It also stated that Elkington plans to release a book and create a film based upon the codices and that "over the years he’s taken thousands of pounds as investment to make a film based on his theories".[33]

    The 'mistake' was made by a sixth century monk known as Dionysius Exiguus or in English Dennis the Small, the 85-year-old pontiff claims in the book 'Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives', published on Wednesday.

    "The calculation of the beginning of our calendar – based on the birth of Jesus – was made by Dionysius Exiguus, who made a mistake in his calculations by several years," the Pope writes in the book, which went on sale around the world with an initial print run of a million copies.

    "The actual date of Jesus's birth was several years before."

    The assertion that the Christian calendar is based on a false premise is not new – many historians believe that Christ was born sometime between 7BC and 2BC.

    But the fact that doubts over one of the keystones of Christian tradition have been raised by the leader of the world's one billion Catholics is striking.

    Dennis the Small, who was born in Eastern Europe, is credited with being the "inventor" of the modern calendar and the concept of the Anno Domini era.


    He drew up the new system in part to distance it from the calendar in use at the time, which was based on the years since the reign of the Roman emperor Diocletian.

    The emperor had persecuted Christians, so there was good reason to expunge him from the new dating system in favour of one inspired by the birth of Christ.

    The monk's calendar became widely accepted in Europe after it was adopted by the Venerable Bede, the historian-monk, to date the events that he recounted in his Ecclesiastical History of the English People, which he completed in AD 731.

    But exactly how Dennis calculated the year of Christ's birth is not clear and the Pope's claim that he made a mistake is a view shared by many scholars.

    The Bible does not specify a date for the birth of Christ. The monk instead appears to have based his calculations on vague references to Jesus's age at the start of his ministry and the fact that he was baptised in the reign of the emperor Tiberius.

    Christ's birth date is not the only controversy raised by the Pope in his new book – he also said that contrary to the traditional Nativity scene, there were no oxen, donkeys or other animals at Jesus's birth.

    He also weighs in on the debate over Christ's birthplace, rejecting arguments by some scholars that he was born in Nazareth rather than Bethlehem.

    John Barton, Professor of the Interpretation of the Holy Scripture at Oriel College, Oxford University, said most academics agreed with the Pope that the Christian calendar was wrong and that Jesus was born several years earlier than commonly thought, probably between 6BC and 4BC.

    "There is no reference to when he was born in the Bible - all we know is that he was born in the reign of Herod the Great, who died before 1AD," he told The Daily Telegraph. "It's been surmised for a very long time that Jesus was born before 1AD - no one knows for sure."

    The idea that Christ was born on Dec 25 also has no basis in historical fact. "We don't even know which season he was born in. The whole idea of celebrating his birth during the darkest part of the year is probably linked to pagan traditions and the winter solstice."

    Additional commentary on the Biblical Meaning of 13 *
    The number thirteen is associated with rebellion and depravity and is used fifteen times in the Bible. All the names of Satan are divisible by thirteen. Nimrod, the chief rebel after the flood, was the thirteenth in the line of Ham. In their thirteenth year of servitude, the kings of the nations rebelled (Genesis 14:4). Twelve represents the government of God and thirteen represents the governments of men in rebellion against God.
    Moses wrote of Israel’s 21 rebellions in Deuteronomy 31:

    "for I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. If today, while I am yet alive with you, you have been rebellious against the Lord, then how much more after my death?" (Deuteronomy 31:27, NKJV)

    When this scriptural reference is added across (3 + 1 + 2 + 7), you get the number 13, which represents rebellion. Haman the Agagite had a decree signed on the thirteenth day of the first month that on the thirteenth day of the 12th month all Jews in the Persian Empire were to be killed:

    "In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur (that is, the lot), before Haman to determine the day and the month, until it fell on the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar. Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, 'There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from all other people’s, and they do not keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain.     The dragon, a symbol for Satan, is found thirteen times in Revelation. Satan is behind all rebellion against God.
    How is the number thirteen linked with being DEFILED?
    In Mark 7 Jesus mentions thirteen things that defile a person. He said that "'What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed:
    1. evil thoughts
    2. adulteries
    3. fornications
    4. murders
    5. thefts
    6. covetousness
    7. wickedness
    8. deceit
    9. lewdness
    10. an evil eye
    11. blasphemy

    How does the number 13 represent hating God?
    In Romans 1, where the apostle Paul lists 23 things against sinful men, the thirteenth in the list is haters of God:

    The forty-two letter Name[8]


    Forty-two is the number with which HaShem creates the Universe in Kabbalistic tradition. This is based on an understanding that the first forty-two letters of the Torah contain one of HaShem’s names. The divine name consisting of forty-two letters was thought by Abulafia[9] to be derived from the first forty-two letters of Bereshit, which starts with the letter bet and ends with the letter mem. Mem bet being the way we represent forty-two when using Hebrew letters, as we saw previously.[10]

    The forty-two letter Name is the force behind the mitzva for a man to marry and have children, because children are created by marital union.

    The Talmud also speaks of this forty-two letter name:

    Kiddushin 71a Rab Judah said in Rab's name: The forty-two lettered Name is entrusted only to him who is pious, meek, middle-aged, free from bad temper, sober, and not insistent on his rights. And he who knows it, is heedful thereof, and observes it in purity, is beloved above and popular below, feared by man, and inherits two worlds, this world and the future world.

    The early commentators say that the forty-two letters are simply derived from the first forty-two letters of the Torah. You may find other possibilities if you count letters of the beginning of the creation story in different ways. The Name is either a particular combination of forty-two letters, known to the Kabbalists from traditional writings, or the name "I Am that I Am", which comes out to 42 in gematria. In any case, the letters of the creation story have become moments of sexual union within the divine life.

    The forty-two letter name is written as fourteen sets of three letters, as in the following example[11]:

    אב"ג ית"ץ קר"ע שט"ן נג"ד יכ"ש בט"ר צת"ג חק"ב טנ"ע יג"ל פז"ק שק"ו צי"ת​

    So again we see this association of the numbers three and fourteen with the number forty-two.

    The forty-two letter name is also found in a permutation of the first forty-two letters of the Torah. Thus the forty-two letter name is associated with creation.

    Torah is the blueprint for creation. As such, it should come as no surprise to learn that there are forty-two lines in each column of Torah text[12]. Our Hakhamim mandated this number based on the number ofcamps found in Bamidbar chapter 33. Thus every page hints to its role in creation, in the forty-two journeys, and with man’s reconciliation.

    In The Midrash

    The Midrash also speaks of forty-two years made up of three sets of fourteen years:

    Midrash Rabbah - Genesis LXXXIX:9 THE SEVEN GOOD KINE ARE SEVEN YEARS, etc. (XLI, 26). R. Judah said: [The dreams] betokened fourteen years [of famine and plenty respectively], since Pharaoh saw it thus.[13] R. Nehemiah said: Twenty-eight years of each, since Pharaoh dreamt thus and narrated thus to Joseph.[14] The Rabbis said: Forty-two years were intended, since Pharaoh dreamed, recounted his dreams to Joseph, and Joseph repeated them to Pharaoh.[15]

    In Our Prayers

    The prayers found in the siddur contain several profound uses of the number forty-two. Whether in the number of words or letters, forty-two is an integral building block used by the prayers to achieve results.

    In the Shema

    In the verse Shema Israel[16], HaShem Elokeinu, HaShem echad there are six words, and in the paragraph of Ve'ahavta (You shall love) till uvisharecha (and upon your gates) there are a total of forty-two words.

    The Shema is recited twice a day, by observant Jews, to obey the Torah command, as found in the Shema itself. The goal of the Shema is not just to declare that HaShem is one, but rather to declare that HaShem is one and there is nothing in existence besides Him. The world and everything around us, is just an extension of HaShem. We are an extension of the oneness of HaShem.

    To help us understand the making of many into one, HaShem gave us the sense of hearing. As an aside, HaShem gave us the human body, with all of its responses, in order to give us intimate insights into HaShem and His creation. If we understand what it means to hear, we can understand what it means to declare HaShem’s oneness.

    Hearing is a sense which requires us to assemble the sounds from another person, into a cohesive picture. Thus we would say that hearing is the forming of disparate parts into a single idea or picture. Literally we make many (sounds) into one (idea).

    The Shema, which is uttered twice a day by every observant Jew, is an interesting perspective into hearing. Shema is normally translated as “hear”. Our Sages teach us that shema literally means the gathering of many and making them into one. The appropriateness of this definition is brought into sharp distinction when we see that the goal of the shema is that HaShem should be one and His name One.

    This “oneness” was our state in Gan Eden. Thus we would say that we find forty-two words in the Ve’ahavta in order to facilitate our return to the state that we enjoyed in Gan Eden.

    The goal of the Shema is oneness, but the goal of the Ve’ahavta is to create a new reality where Klal Israel are bonded together in love for HaShem.

    The verse of “Shema Israel” (Hear O Israel) accentuates “accepting the yoke of heaven”, and the paragraph of "Ve'ahavta" (and you shal love) deals with absolute love of HaShem.
    The six cities of refuge correspond to the six words “Shema Yisrael Adonai Elohenu Adonai Ehad,” “Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.” Add the names of the forty-two other cities, and you have forty-eight words, corresponding to the total of forty-eight Hebrew words in the passage beginning with “Hear, O Israel...” (Deut. 6:4) and ending with “...and upon thy gates” (Deut. 6:9).

    The foregoing implies that the words of the declaration of faith beginning with "Hear O Israel" (Deut. 6:4-9) constitutes those "cities of refuge" where any Jews, no matter what his sin, can find shelter and protection. If he accepts the yoke of the Kingdom of Heaven and loves the Lord, he will be saved from the accusers who pursue him.[17]

    In the Amida

    The first blessing of the Amida contains forty-two Hebrew words.

    In the Ana B’Koach Prayer

    Hakham Nechunya Ben Hakanah[18] wrote a special prayer with forty-two words, the initials of which comprise the forty-two letter Divine name. The first line is: Ana B'koach Gedulat Y'mincha Tatir Tz'rurah:

    "We beg You! With the strength of Your Right Hand’s greatness, untie the bundled sins. Accept the prayer of Your nation; strengthen us, purify us, O awesome One. Please, O Strong One, those who foster Your Oneness, guard them as the apple of Your eye. Bless them, purify them, show them mercy. May Your righteousness always recompense them. Powerful Holy One, with Your abundant goodness guide Your congregation. One and only Exalted One, turn to Your nation, which proclaims Your holiness. Accept our requests and hear our cry, O Knower of all mysteries."

    Hakham Nechunya wanted to be able to pronounce the unpronounceable, to call out and call forth the reality of the whole, in order to deal with the stubborn sins that keep us stuck.

    One of the Kabbalistic explanations of the prayer, Ana B'Koach - בכח אנא, suggests that the number forty-two is associated with the process of ascent, whereby we elevate the material context in which we live. Ana B'Koach corresponds to the forty-two letter Name of HaShem that prophets used to meditate on in order to go into a state of prophecy.

    Hakham Nechunya specifically asserted that if you properly understand how to use the forty-two lettered name as a key to seasons and time[19], that this key reveals a lengthy period of time between the origin of the universe and the creation of man. In his view, the universe is thus not a mere few thousand years old as the text seems to claim on the surface, but is 15.3 billion years old, the very age arrived at only recently by the estimates of modern astrophysical theories of the big bang.

    Whenever the concept of forty-two comes up, it usually alludes to an opportunity to become more spiritually elevated, to return to what we were before the fall. This is why the prayer Ana b'koach is found in all siddurim before Pesukei D'Zimrei (Introductory Psalms), and Lecha Dodi erev Shabbat, and at other times that promote our spiritual elevation. And, as the Kabbalists point out, Ana b'koach is made up of seven stanzas each with six words, whose forty-two letter acrostic alludes to the forty-two letter Name.

    HaShem created the world with this forty-two lettered name,[20] and it facilitates a Jew's endeavors to ascend spiritually from level to level. For this reason, every morning as we prepare to ascend spiritually, through prayer, we recite "Ana becho'ach" before "Eizehu mekoman." Likewise for the ascent through the minchah prayers, before "Ashrei" we say karbanot (portions dealing with sacrifices) and conclude with "Ana becho'ach." Before going to sleep we recite "Ana becho'ach" in Kriat Shema al Hamitah, since the neshamah prepares itself to be rejuvenated and to rise to a higher spiritual sphere. And on Friday night, after reciting six Psalms corresponding to the six days of the week,[21] as we prepare to enter the holiness of Shabbat, "Ana becho'ach" is also recited.

    Tehillim (Psalm) 100

    42 words make up this Psalm which represent a connection to the 42-letter name of the Creator, also known as the Ana B’choach. This prayer is meant to arouse within us thankfulness and appreciation for the unseen miracles that occur in our lives.
    A song of thanksgiving,
    Shout in triumph to Hashem, all the earth.
    Serve Hashem with joy,
    come before the Eternal with happiness.
    Know that Hashem is the Eternal One,
    the One who made us, and to whom we belong,
    the people, the flock of the Eternal’s pasture.
    Enter the Eternal’s gates with thanksgiving,
    the Eternal’s courts with praise.
    Thank the Eternal, praise the Name.
    For Hashem is good, mercy everlasting,
    faithfulness, enduring through all generations.​

    In The Kaddish

    The scholars of Kabbala have identified a number of different mystical allusions in the Kaddish prayer. For example, the phrase "Ve'yishtabach Ve'yitpa'ar Ve'yitromam Ve'yitnasei Ve'yit'hadar Ve'yit'aleh Ve'yit'halal" consists of seven words, each of which begins with the letter "Vav," which has the numerical value of six. The product of seven and six is forty-two, and thus this phrase alludes to the forty-two letter Name of God. By the same token, each of these seven words consists of six letters.[22]

    The Kaddish sanctifies the great name of HaShem, that is the great name of forty-two letters.

    The Kaddish is the means for the elevation of the People of Israel from one stage to the next in their journey of life, leading ultimately to Olam Haba.

    Cities of refuge

    The first six words of the Shema followed by the forty-two words of the Ve’ahavta are a picture of the cities which were given to the Levites.[23] The Levites were given forty-two cities in addition to the sixcities of refuge. This suggests an intrinsic connection between the Shema and the Levitical cities.

    Bamidbar (Numbers)35:6 And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

    When it is proven that a person killed unintentionally, he is banished to one of the six cities of refuge or one of the forty-two Levitical cities, to protect him from the vengeance of the slain man's relatives. He must stay there and not leave the city or its city limits for any reason whatsoever, until the death of the Kohen Gadol[24] who served at the time that he was sentenced to exile.

    Bamidbar (Numbers) 35:6 And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee thither; and beside them ye shall give forty and two cities.

    The cities of refuge are closely connected to the cities of the Levites. They appear in the same chapter in the Torah. In fact, the forty-two Levite cities function as cities of refuge[25]. The cities of refuge are under the jurisdiction of the Levites, and more specifically, the High Priest. When an unintentional killer dwells within the city of refuge he becomes the “property” of the High Priest. He lives within his city and therefore belongs to him. Although by no means a slave, he still lives under the dominion of the High Priest. The same law governing the release of a permanent Jewish slave upon the death of his master[26]applies here. The unintentional killer may leave only upon the death of his “master”, the High Priest.

    What was the point of having the manslayer flee to a city of refuge? A manslayer was one who had killed someone unintentionally. Chazal teach that this accident occurred because the manslayer did not take special precautions to insure that it could not happen. In other words, he did not have love for his fellow. To correct this lack of love, this failure to be cautious, HaShem sends the manslayer and his teacher to a city of refuge. These cities are populated by the Levites and priests who primary job was to teach Torah. Further, the priests were the descendants of Aharon who had a special knack for bringing peace between a man and his neighbor. Thus the Levitical cities were the ideal environment to rehabilitate the manslayer. The manslayer could learn Torah by observing it in the actions of those who were trained and called to teach Torah.

    The forty-two cities which were given to the Levites are going to be inhabited by those who are close to HaShem because of their service in the Beit HaMikdash and because their primary job is to teach Torah. The primary way of teaching Torah is by modeling a life of Torah. This suggests that the Levites are re-creating Gan Eden and teaching Torah to the Bne Israel in such a way that they, too, are ascending back to the state that they had at Gan Eden. Both entities are part of the process of recreation. Forty-two is the perfect number to describe this process.

    Finally, Rashi, on Bereshit 4:16, offer the following insight into the cities of refuge:

    to the east of Eden --There his father was exiled when he was driven out of the Garden of Eden, as it is said (3:24) “and He stationed at the east of the Garden of Eden, etc., to guard” the way of approach to the Garden, from which we can learn that Adam was there. And we find that the easterly direction always offers asylum for murderers, as it is said (Deut. 4:41): “Then Moses separated, etc.” [three cities of refuge]in the direction of the sunrise”-[Mid. Devarim Rabbah, Lieberman, p.60; Tan. Buber ad loc.]. Another explanation: בְּאֶרֶץנוֹד means that wherever he went, the earth would quake beneath him, and the people would say, “Go away from him; this is the one who killed his brother” [Mid. Tan., Bereishith 9].

    In Time

    There are forty-two days between the end of Pesach and Shavuot. During this time we are counting the Omer and working on ourselves to be able to stand before HaShem and receive the Torah. Since therevelation at Mt. Sinai is a recreation of Gan Eden, we can begin to understand that the work of the omer period is to change ourselves back to the state we had in the Garden. At Sinai, we again stood in the presence of The Creator for the revelation of the Torah, which is the blueprint for creation. HaShem looked into His Torah and used it to create the world.

    The forty-two days between Pesach and Shavuot are connected by Sefirat HaOmer, the counting of the omer. They are also connected in that Shavuot is the completion of Pesach; this is why Shavuot is also called Atzeret.

    Thus we see that the number forty-two is concealed within our omer count; and its meaning and significance is bound up in unifying these two festivals. Finally, the result of counting forty-two, at Sinai, is a new man who again walks with HaShem in the Garden.

    Creation

    The Zohar understands the recounting of these forty-two stations on a mystical level. According to the Kabbalah, God brought the world into being by virtue of the first forty-two letters of the Torah, the forty-two building blocks or stages of creation. The forty-two stations of travel in Masei echo the genesis of the world and reflect a second process of creation, one that lasted forty-two years. In recounting the forty-two journeys, Moses now tells B’nai Israel that in fact, a new creation has occurred. The creation of the nation has paralleled the world.[27]

    Zohar Hadash, Ma’amar 42 Journeys When G-d brought the Jews out from Egypt, He brought them out with the mystery of the 42-letter name, just as He created heaven and earth…

    Rabbi Avraham Sabba (d. 1508) explains the connection:

    These journeys were something remarkable: the conclusion of the entire Torah… Just as the Torah begins with the story of creation, which alludes to the 42-letter name, so too, it ends (Masei is the end of the main part of the Torah, as Devarim is treated differently) with the record of the 42 journeys, which correspond to the 42-letter name. This hints to the fact that the Torah is all-inclusive, bound and sealed in a single entity… There is no division in it at all; for its start is bound to its end and its end to its beginning.[28]

    Shabbat

    We have a several times that the number forty-two is found at the beginning and end of Shabbat.

    As the women are lighting the two Shabbat candles eighteen minutes before sundown, the men are in the synagogue reciting the prayer Ana b'koach just before Lecha Dodi. This prayer contains the forty-twoletter name of HaShem. The men will pray this prayer again during Shacharit services just before Pesukei D'Zimrei.

    The purpose of prayer is for a person to change himself into what he needs to be to cause HaShem to heed his prayer. The hard work of prayer is to change yourself, as we have learned in a previous study. As they ascend in their prayers towards a union with HaShem, they reach a point where they are in the process of becoming a new creation, bonded with HaShem. This process reaches a significant peak at the Ve'ahavta, which we have already studied.

    At the end of Shabbat, we again find the number forty-two. The havdallah candle is lit forty-two minutes after sundown. This seems like a peculiar place to find forty-two. After all, Shabbat is ending. The most beloved of days is ending. How can this be a time of ascent?

    Shabbat is the plan and the result. It is the life of the week, the spark of kedusha[29] which animates time.

    Shabbat rest is an opportunity for introspection. What have I achieved this week? How am I better, more aware, more sensitive? Where do I need to develop in particular? Stock taking; facing up to oneself honestly. This itself is a faint reflection of the eternal facing up to oneself which is of the essence of the next world. The meditation of Shabbat is the meditation of being, not becoming. But from that awareness the next week’s becoming is generated.

    Shabbat ends with havdallah, the ceremony of “distinguishing” the holy from the mundane. A profound lesson can be learned from havdallah which is part of the theme we have been studying.
    Shabbat exits, the week begins. There is a natural sense of let-down, holiness has left, the lower state is experienced. This is why we smell spices at havdallah, to revive the wilting neshama.

    But a deep secret is revealed when we take wine for havdallah! Wine is used when elevation occurs. What is the meaning of this paradox?

    The idea is as follows. Certainly the week begins with the sadness of sensing Shabbat fade. The relinquishing of kedusha is palpable. We smell spices. But the week’s beginning means a new opportunity to build, to elevate our present status towards another Shabbat which will be higher than the last, which will reflect another week of work and growth added to all the previous ones! We take wine! This is called “a descent for the purpose of elevation”, a higher and greater elevation than before.

    Shabbat is closely related to the idea of teshuva[30]. The letters of Shabbat are also those of tashev the root of teshuva. Shabbat is the celebration of the remembrance of Creation, a return to the primal, perfect state, a return to the source. Teshuva is a return to the pure state, the state which existed before sin caused its damage. But more than this: just as each Shabbat is built by a descent from the previous one into the work of the week, so too the state of teshuva is in one way higher than the original unblemished state which preceded sin.

    Teshuva, when motivated and performed correctly, transforms sin into merit! The mechanism of this seeming paradox is this: before a person sinned, the potential for that sin was latent in the personality. It was an undiscovered, unexpressed weakness waiting to break through. The act of sin revealed it and made it actual in the personality. Before the sin there was a serious deficiency in the personality, that person carried a flaw; the opportunity to sin proved that, the flaw was revealed.

    The definition of teshuva is that when it has been sincerely performed the person has reached a state in which, if presented with the opportunity and temptation to sin again, he would not do so. The flaw has been removed! Sin revealed the weakness, teshuva corrected it. Amazingly, the sin was an integral part of the process of reaching a new level where the personality defect which led to that sin, has been eradicated; the sin itself has been uses as a tool for growth, it has been transformed into a merit!

    Of course, one may not sin deliberately in order to utilize this process, in fact, sinning deliberately for this purpose blocks that path to teshuva. The ideal pathway is to recognize a character flaw before it manifests as sin and to eliminate it immediately. In this way development of the personality can take place without the damage of sin. But the fact remains that if a flaw is unrecognized and uncorrected and leads to sin, teshuva can redeem and even improve.

    Our pathway again, a state unblemished by sin, a descent into the state of sin , and ascent to a new level of growth, stronger and clearer. The descent has turned out to be “a descent for the purpose of elevation”.

    So we see our overall theme reflected most seminally in the cycle of Shabbat and the week; a high beginning, a descent, a loss of that high level of kedusha, but only for the purpose of being able to work, to achieve. And then the result of that work: a return to the dimension of the beginning, higher, more inspired, more sensitive; closer to that final Shabbat and better prepared. We have joined with the Shabbat and become a new, more elevated creation, bonded to HaShem. Thus we signify this by lighting the havdallah candle forty-two minutes after sundown.

    In Sefirat HaOmer

    When we count the omer, we work on each of seven traits as found in the sefirot. On the forty-second day of our count, we encounter the sefirah of Malchut she'be'Yesod.

    Malchut is the attribute of nobility and sovereignty.

    Yesod is bonding and unity.

    Yesod is the place of the brit mila and is the organ of the conception of a new creation. Thus we can see that the forty-second day of Sefirat HaOmer would be for the creation of a noble man, an Ish.

    In the Calendar

    Bachya (13th century AD) used an ELS[31] with spacing of forty-two, that started with the
    first letter of Bereshit[32] - ב
    then went to the
    42nd letter following that ב - ה
    then went to the
    42nd letter following that ה - ר
    then went to the
    42nd letter following that ר - ד
    to produce the sequence בהרד, which he showed to produce the 29.530594 day synodic Lunar month.

    Bachya did not claim to have discovered the Torah-coding of the Jewish Lunar month, but gave credit to Nechunya (1st century AD).

    The crossing of the Red Sea took place on Nisan twenty-one, on the seventh day of Passover. Again we see HaShem giving His people laws and decrees before the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. This event took place forty-two days before the Torah was given on Mount Sinai. On this day the Bne Israel will be immersed in the Yam Suf[33] and be baptized into Moses.

    1 Corinthians 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea

    Baptism, as we learned when we studied the number forty, is a return to the state we had at Eden. Further, Moshe is the first redeemer, so being baptized into Moshe is the bonding of Bne Israel with The Redeemer. Being baptized into Moshe means being bonded with the ultimate Redeemer, Mashiach.

    When the Bne Israel emerged on the side of the Yam Suf, they were ready to begin the forty-two days of growth that would allow them to receive the Torah, which was a recreation of Gan Eden.

    There is another way of looking at the sefirah. Since there are forty-two days between Pesach and Shavuot, we could present the sefirot which form our Omer count as beginning on the day after the seventh day of Pesach. The Sfat Emet points out that in addition to these forty-two journeys, there are an additional seven where the nation actually retreats to a previous encampment.

    The following chart illustrates the connection between the sefirat HaOmer and the wilderness camps in Bamidbar 33:

    Finally, the Sefer Ha-Temunah establishes the age of the world, at least according to some classical interpretations, at forty-two thousand years. That is, the world was created forty-two thousand years old when Adam was created. This teaching was subject to a highly significant interpretation by Rabbi Isaac of Akko. According to Rabbi Akko and some Midrashic sources, the 42,000 years, translates the age of the Earth as 15,340,500,000 years old.[34]

    If one were to dig a tunnel between any two points on earth, one would find that it would take forty-two minutes to traverse the distance within the tunnel, using gravity. No matter how long or short the tunnel is, as long as the tunnel is straight, it will take exactly forty-two minutes to traverse the tunnel when we use gravity alone for our motive force.

    Building the Beit HaMikdash

    Forty-two is associated with the building of the Beit HaMikdash, as can be seen from:

    Divre HaYamim (2 Chronicles) 1:18 - 2:1 Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of HaShem, and a house for his kingdom. And Solomon counted out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, and eighty thousand men that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.

    In the above pasuk, king Shlomo appointed 3,600 to oversee 150,000. We can see, therefore that forty-two (150,000 divided by 3,600 = 42) is the maximum number of workers that one person can oversee. Chazal comment on this by examining the following pasuk:

    Ruth 2:5-6 5 Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers: ‘Whose damsel is this?’6 And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said: ‘It is a Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the field of Moab;

    The overseer whom Boaz addressed was “standing over the reapers” in a high, prominent place so that his voice would carry far. Chazal point out that he was supervising forty-two harvesters:

    Midrash Rabbah Ruth IV:6 THEN BOAZ SAID TO HIS SERVANT THAT WAS SET OVER THE REAPERS (II,5). Over how many was he appointed? R. Eliezer, the son of Miriam, said: He was set over forty-two, as we see from the verse, And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel... and he set three score and ten thousand of them to bear burdens, and fourscore thousands to be hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people at work (II Chron. II, 16 f.). One who adopts this plan is able to go on, and knows what he is about.

    We know that as king Shlomo built the Beit HaMikdash by combining many stones, so HaShem will send His angels to gather the elect from the four corners of the earth and form them into the body ofMashiach:

    Colossians 1:18 And he (Mashiach) is the head of the body, the assembly: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all he might have the preeminence.

    From this we can understand that the forming of many stones into a Beit HaMikdash and the forming of many tzaddikim into the body of Mashiach is associated with the number forty-two. Man, as a microcosm of the universe[35], is the ultimate act of creation. Further, only in Gan Eden did we have a royal man (Adam) who had in his loins the souls of everyone who would ever live. Adam pictures many parts joined into one.

    The process of building and supervising this construction project, is the process of forty-two. So, again we see that creation is associated with forty-two.

    It comes out that the menorah had a total of twenty-two cups. There were eighteen on the six branches, three on each branch, and an additional four on the stem of the menorah. The menorah also had elevenspheres, six on the six branches, three on the shaft where the branches extend, one near the bottom, and one in the upper three handbreadths of the shaft. The last sphere was together with the three upper cups. The menorah also had nine flowers. There were six, one on each of the six branches, and three on the shaft. All these were absolutely necessary if the menorah was to be valid. If one of the above forty-two cups, spheres, or flowers were missing, the menorah was invalid. The same is true if any of the seven branches or seven lamps were missing.

    The forty-two of the menorah points to it’s function of providing the light of the world which leads us back to HaShem and a turning from our wicked ways.

    Bilaam, Balak, and Elisha

    Balak prepared seven altars, with two sacrifices on each altar, three times:

    Bamidbar (Numbers) 23:1 And Bilaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

    Bamidbar (Numbers) 23:14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

    Bamidbar (Numbers) 23:29 And Bilaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.

    Thus we have three sets of fourteen sacrifices, for a total of forty-two sacrifices.

    Before each attempt to curse Bne Israel, Bilaam has Balak erect seven altars and offer two sacrifices upon each, such that in total he brought forty-two sacrifices.

    Sanhedrin 105b Rab Judah said in Rab's name: One should always occupy himself with Torah and good deeds, though it be not for their own sake, for out of good work misapplied in purpose there comes [the desire to do it] for its own sake. For as a reward for the forty-two sacrifices offered up by Balak, he was privileged that Ruth should be his descendant; [as] R. Jose b. Huna said: Ruth was the daughter of Eglon, the grandson of Balak, king of Moab.

    The Gemara takes this incident with Balak and connects it to an incident in Sefer Melachim:

    Sotah 47a - R. Hanina said: On account of the forty-two sacrifices which Balak, king of Moab, offered, were forty-two children cut off from Israel.

    The Gemara here refers to a somewhat obscure incident told towards the beginning of Sefer Melachim II, at the end of chapter 2. Shortly after Eliyahu's death, his disciple and successor as prophet, Elisha, comes to the city of Bet El and is greeted by a group of youngsters who hurl insults at him. Elisha curses them with HaShem's Name, at which point two bears come out of the forest and tear apart forty-two of them.

    Melachim (II Kings) 2:22-25 And the waters were healed until this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke. 23. And he went up from there to Beth-El; and as he was going up by the way, there came out little children from the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, you bald head; go up, you bald head. 24. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came out two female bears from the wood, and tore forty two children of them. 25. And he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.

    The Zohar then comes to connect these two incidents:

    Soncino Zohar, Shemoth, Section 2, Page 224a - R. Simeon said: ‘Observe that the forty-two offerings brought by Balaam and Balak were offerings diverted from the “other side” towards the Holy One, blessed be He, and so the “other side”, which is called “curse”, had to be repaid these offerings from Israel. This is the inner implication of the verse, “And he looked behind him and saw them”. That is to say, “behind him”, meaning the “other side”, which stands behind the Shechinah. He turned “and saw them”, as being meet for punishment; “and cursed them in the name of the Lord”, inducing the Divine Name, as it were, to discharge the debt owing to the “other side”, for the latter's offerings which had been diverted to Him. Thus all is made right before the Holy One, blessed be He, and not a single act is lost, whether for good or for evil.

    Soncino Zohar, Shemoth, Section 2, Page 224b - Straightway “he [Elisha] cursed them in the name of the Lord”. “And there came forth two bears”-she bears, as indicated by the feminine numeral sh'tayim, big with offspring, “and tare forty and two children of them”, in correspondence, as has been explained, to the number of offerings brought by Balak.

    This is a very perplexing incident. How can the taunts of children make them worthy of death? After all, HaShem is clearly with Elisha and He is clearly the one controlling the two bears. Thus we must conclude that HaShem is executing the death penalty on these forty-two, because of their words.

    Since the youth’s taunt involves the head and the lack of hair, we can begin to understand that the sin that they commit is idolatry. After all, demeaning a prophet and implying that he has no connection with HaShem, is tantamount to idolatry; and we know that idolatry does carry the death penalty. Further, the Zohar has also connected these children with the idolatry and rebellion of Balak and Bilaam.

    The death of these young people is ridding the land of that which is impure. At the same time, it is sanctifying the name of HaShem by exacting the Torah punishment for idolatry. The land of Israel, then, is being recreated to become what it was in the beginning: Gan Eden.

    Chazal also teach us that in the merit of Balak's forty-two sacrifices, he was privileged to be the progenitor of Ruth, who was the mother of royalty. Even the mitzvot of the wicked must have a reward. And, as we learned in a previous study, the wicked do not exist in the Olam HaBa and their reward must be paid out in this world. The story of Ruth is thus associated with recreation and a return to Gan Eden.

    In Mashiach’s genealogy

    Balak built three sets of seven altars where he offered three sets of fourteen sacrifices for a total of forty-two sacrifices. We have a similar numbering idea in Sefer Matityahu, where we have three sets of fourteen generations for a total of forty-two generations:

    Matityahu 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Mashiach are fourteen generations.

    This genealogy starts with Avraham. Why start with Avraham? After all, the genealogy in Luqas goes all the way back to Adam.[36]

    Avraham was the first king of the whole world. Avraham defeated the king of Assyria, the king of Babylon, and two additional kings. He defeated these kings after they had already defeated five other great kings[37]. The area that these kings ruled would have been nearly all of the known world. This suggests that the genealogy of Mashiach was specifically traced through kings and princes, all the way back to the first of the Patriarchs and the progenitor of Israel. This genealogy went back to the beginning of the covenant people, to the very seed of the Bne Israel.[38]

    Matityahu enumerates the lineage of Mashiach ben David to forty-two names, in three sets of fourteen. It is no coincidence that the name David, in Hebrew, has three letters (דוד), whose total numerical value is fourteen. (each letter of the Hebrew alphabet represents a number; ד = 4, ו = 6, ד = 4). Further, David HaMelech was king of Israel for a total of 42 years!

    Thus we see that the number fourteen alludes to King David. Interestingly, when we go back to the beginning, we are going back to when all the Bne Israel were contained in the loins of Avraham. We were one people in Avraham, even as we were one in Adam HaRishon.

    I believe that the following midrash speaks to the genealogy of Mashiach (The Bread from Heaven):

    Midrash Rabbah - Exodus XXV:5 - and God said, BEHOLD, I WILL CAUSE TO RAIN BREAD FROM HEAVEN FOR YOU. R. Judah b. Shalom the Levite said in the name of R. Jonah, and also R. Levi in the name of R. Hama b. R. Hanina said: The manna descended after [they had travelled] forty-two stages.

    Finally, the Zohar also points us to Mashiach and uses very graphic terminology to do so.

    Soncino Zohar, Bereshith, Section 1, Page 1a Rabbi Hizkiah opened his discourse with the text: As a lily among thorns, etc. (S.S. II, 2). ‘What’, he said, ‘does the lily symbolise? It symbolises the Community of Israel. As the lily among thorns is tinged with red and white, so the Community of Israel is visited now with justice and now with mercy; as the lily possesses thirteen leaves, so the Community of Israel is vouchsafed thirteen categories of mercy which surround it on every side. For this reason, the term Elohim (God) mentioned here (in the first verse of Genesis) is separated by thirteen words from the next mention of Elohim, symbolising the thirteen categories of mercy which surround the Community of Israel to protect it. The second mention of Elohim is separated from the third by five words, representing the five strong leaves that surround the lily, symbolic of the five ways of salvation which are the “five gates”. This is alluded to in the verse “I will lift up the cup of salvation” (Ps. CXVI, 13). This is the “cup of benediction”,which has to be raised by five fingers and no more, after the model of the lily, which rests on five strong leaves in the shape of five fingers. Thus the lily is a symbol of the cup of benediction. Immediately after the third mention of Elohim appears the light which, so soon as created, was treasured up and enclosed in that b'rith (covenant) which entered the lily and fructified it, and this is what is called “ tree bearing fruit wherein is the seed thereof”: and this seed is preserved in the very sign of the covenant. And as the ideal covenant was formed through forty-two copulations, so the engraven ineffable name is formed of the forty-two letters of the work of creation.’

    These forty-two copulations are a clear allusion to the forty-two sets of ‘parents’ who are the ancestors of Mashiach (remember that the covenant equals Torah Equals Mashiach) in Matityahu chapter 1.

    In Sefer Revelation

    In sefer Revelation we have two occurrences of the number forty-two. This sod level sefer is revealing a great deal by using the number forty-two.

    Revelation 11:2 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

    In this first passage we see that the Bne Israel are about to be judged. We know that they are being judged because that is always the purpose of a tape measure, or measuring stick. Consider that when a builder uses a tape measure, that he is evaluating an item for a particular purpose. If the item is too small for this purpose, it is rejected. If it is too big for this purpose, then it is corrected. Thus when Yochanan is told to measure the Temple, the altar, and them that worship therein, he is being to told to judge them for their fitness to the purpose of creation.

    The Temple is a symbol of Adam in Gan Eden. It is a picture of the lively stones[39] that make up the body of Mashiach. The judgment of the Temple and its worshippers is a necessary precondition for their return to HaShem. Some may be corrected and some may be rejected. This process of judgment is to take forty-two months.

    In addition to being a time of judgment for the Bne Israel, this also seems to be a time of judgment for the Gentiles. The ultimate goal of all judgment is to correct those that are correctable and to reject those that can not be corrected. This process of judgment is the process of the forty-two camps of the Bne Israel. During the forty year journey, some were rejected, some were corrected, and the rest were prepared for the return to the Land of Israel, Gan Eden.

    Revelation 13:3-5 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world[40] wondered after the beast. 4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

    In this second use of forty-two, in sefer Revelation, we see another judgment that reminds us a bit of the incident with the forty-two young people who used their mouth’s to commit idolatry and rebellion. In sefer Revelation we see a beast with a mouth who blasphemes and thereby rejects HaShem. HaShem’s goal for this beast is the removal of all those not written in Sefer HaChaim, the Book of Life – The Torah. This judgment of the Gentiles and the Bne Israel is used to prepare the land for its elevations and to prepare those who are written in the Book of Life, to dwell therein with HaShem. Thus we would expect forty-two to be associated with this process that “re-creates” man for Gan Eden.

    There are forty-two laws used to properly understand the Zohar.

    Megillat Esther records that two years after Koresh (Cyrus) gave the order to rebuild Jerusalem, Achashverosh became King. Out of the millions of Jews who were taken captive to Babylon, forty-two thousand returned to Israel.

    Hakham Schach proves the value of Torah as the self-sufficient repository of all knowledge by asking, rhetorically: "Whence did Chazal know that the earth was forty-two times larger than the moon, and that the sun was approximately one-hundred-and-seventy times larger than the earth[41], if not from the power of the Torah?

    Forty-Two By Rabbeinu Bechaye
    Rabbenu Bachya writes that the seven healthy cows and the seven emaciated cows in Pharaohs dream equals fourteen; he then recalled the dream to Yosef, another fourteen; Yosef repeated the dream over the course of his interpretation, for a total of forty-two. Now two years into the famine, Yaakov came down to Egypt and the famine ended as a result of the blessing which accompanied him. However, the promise of the forty-two years was still to be fulfilled, as over a thousand years later the pasuk states, "Egypt will be desolate, it will not be settled for forty years"[44] - thus completing the total of forty-twoyears of famine.

    The forty-two letter Name[8]


    Forty-two is the number with which HaShem creates the Universe in Kabbalistic tradition. This is based on an understanding that the first forty-two letters of the Torah contain one of HaShem’s names. The divine name consisting of forty-two letters was thought by Abulafia[9] to be derived from the first forty-two letters of Bereshit, which starts with the letter bet and ends with the letter mem. Mem bet being the way we represent forty-two when using Hebrew letters, as we saw previously.[10]

    The forty-two letter Name is the force behind the mitzva for a man to marry and have children, because children are created by marital union.

    The Talmud also speaks of this forty-two letter name:

    Kiddushin 71a Rab Judah said in Rab's name: The forty-two lettered Name is entrusted only to him who is pious, meek, middle-aged, free from bad temper, sober, and not insistent on his rights. And he who knows it, is heedful thereof, and observes it in purity, is beloved above and popular below, feared by man, and inherits two worlds, this world and the future world.

    The early commentators say that the forty-two letters are simply derived from the first forty-two letters of the Torah. You may find other possibilities if you count letters of the beginning of the creation story in different ways. The Name is either a particular combination of forty-two letters, known to the Kabbalists from traditional writings, or the name "I Am that I Am", which comes out to 42 in gematria. In any case, the letters of the creation story have become moments of sexual union within the divine life.

    The forty-two letter name is written as fourteen sets of three letters, as in the following example[11]:​

    So again we see this association of the numbers three and fourteen with the number forty-two.

    The forty-two letter name is also found in a permutation of the first forty-two letters of the Torah. Thus the forty-two letter name is associated with creation.

    Torah is the blueprint for creation. As such, it should come as no surprise to learn that there are forty-two lines in each column of Torah text[12]. Our Hakhamim mandated this number based on the number ofcamps found in Bamidbar chapter 33. Thus every page hints to its role in creation, in the forty-two journeys, and with man’s reconciliation.

    In The Midrash

    The Midrash also speaks of forty-two years made up of three sets of fourteen years:

    In Our Prayers

    The prayers found in the siddur contain several profound uses of the number forty-two. Whether in the number of words or letters, forty-two is an integral building block used by the prayers to achieve results.

    In the Shema

    In the verse Shema Israel[16], HaShem Elokeinu, HaShem echad there are six words, and in the paragraph of Ve'ahavta (You shall love) till uvisharecha (and upon your gates) there are a total of forty-two words.

    The Shema is recited twice a day, by observant Jews, to obey the Torah command, as found in the Shema itself. The goal of the Shema is not just to declare that HaShem is one, but rather to declare that HaShem is one and there is nothing in existence besides Him. The world and everything around us, is just an extension of HaShem. We are an extension of the oneness of HaShem.

    To help us understand the making of many into one, HaShem gave us the sense of hearing. As an aside, HaShem gave us the human body, with all of its responses, in order to give us intimate insights into HaShem and His creation. If we understand what it means to hear, we can understand what it means to declare HaShem’s oneness.

    Hearing is a sense which requires us to assemble the sounds from another person, into a cohesive picture. Thus we would say that hearing is the forming of disparate parts into a single idea or picture. Literally we make many (sounds) into one (idea).

    The Shema, which is uttered twice a day by every observant Jew, is an interesting perspective into hearing. Shema is normally translated as “hear”. Our Sages teach us that shema literally means the gathering of many and making them into one. The appropriateness of this definition is brought into sharp distinction when we see that the goal of the shema is that HaShem should be one and His name One.

    This “oneness” was our state in Gan Eden. Thus we would say that we find forty-two words in the Ve’ahavta in order to facilitate our return to the state that we enjoyed in Gan Eden.

    The goal of the Shema is oneness, but the goal of the Ve’ahavta is to create a new reality where Klal Israel are bonded together in love for HaShem.

    The verse of “Shema Israel” (Hear O Israel) accentuates “accepting the yoke of heaven”, and the paragraph of "Ve'ahavta" (and you shal love) deals with absolute love of HaShem.
    The six cities of refuge correspond to the six words “Shema Yisrael Adonai Elohenu Adonai Ehad,” “Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One.” Add the names of the forty-two other cities, and you have forty-eight words, corresponding to the total of forty-eight Hebrew words in the passage beginning with “Hear, O Israel...” (Deut. 6:4) and ending with “...and upon thy gates” (Deut. 6:9).

    The foregoing implies that the words of the declaration of faith beginning with "Hear O Israel" (Deut. 6:4-9) constitutes those "cities of refuge" where any Jews, no matter what his sin, can find shelter and protection. If he accepts the yoke of the Kingdom of Heaven and loves the Lord, he will be saved from the accusers who pursue him.[17]

    In the Amida

    The first blessing of the Amida contains forty-two Hebrew words.

    In the Ana B’Koach Prayer

    Hakham Nechunya Ben Hakanah[18] wrote a special prayer with forty-two words, the initials of which comprise the forty-two letter Divine name. The first line is: Ana B'koach Gedulat Y'mincha Tatir Tz'rurah:

    "We beg You! With the strength of Your Right Hand’s greatness, untie the bundled sins. Accept the prayer of Your nation; strengthen us, purify us, O awesome One. Please, O Strong One, those who foster Your Oneness, guard them as the apple of Your eye. Bless them, purify them, show them mercy. May Your righteousness always recompense them. Powerful Holy One, with Your abundant goodness guide Your congregation. One and only Exalted One, turn to Your nation, which proclaims Your holiness. Accept our requests and hear our cry, O Knower of all mysteries."​

    Hakham Nechunya wanted to be able to pronounce the unpronounceable, to call out and call forth the reality of the whole, in order to deal with the stubborn sins that keep us stuck.

    One of the Kabbalistic explanations of the prayer, Ana B'Koach - בכח אנא, suggests that the number forty-two is associated with the process of ascent, whereby we elevate the material context in which we live. Ana B'Koach corresponds to the forty-two letter Name of HaShem that prophets used to meditate on in order to go into a state of prophecy.

    Hakham Nechunya specifically asserted that if you properly understand how to use the forty-two lettered name as a key to seasons and time[19], that this key reveals a lengthy period of time between the origin of the universe and the creation of man. In his view, the universe is thus not a mere few thousand years old as the text seems to claim on the surface, but is 15.3 billion years old, the very age arrived at only recently by the estimates of modern astrophysical theories of the big bang.

    Whenever the concept of forty-two comes up, it usually alludes to an opportunity to become more spiritually elevated, to return to what we were before the fall. This is why the prayer Ana b'koach is found in all siddurim before Pesukei D'Zimrei (Introductory Psalms), and Lecha Dodi erev Shabbat, and at other times that promote our spiritual elevation. And, as the Kabbalists point out, Ana b'koach is made up of seven stanzas each with six words, whose forty-two letter acrostic alludes to the forty-two letter Name.

    HaShem created the world with this forty-two lettered name,[20] and it facilitates a Jew's endeavors to ascend spiritually from level to level. For this reason, every morning as we prepare to ascend spiritually, through prayer, we recite "Ana becho'ach" before "Eizehu mekoman." Likewise for the ascent through the minchah prayers, before "Ashrei" we say karbanot (portions dealing with sacrifices) and conclude with "Ana becho'ach." Before going to sleep we recite "Ana becho'ach" in Kriat Shema al Hamitah, since the neshamah prepares itself to be rejuvenated and to rise to a higher spiritual sphere. And on Friday night, after reciting six Psalms corresponding to the six days of the week,[21] as we prepare to enter the holiness of Shabbat, "Ana becho'ach" is also recited.

    Tehillim (Psalm) 100

    42 words make up this Psalm which represent a connection to the 42-letter name of the Creator, also known as the Ana B’choach. This prayer is meant to arouse within us thankfulness and appreciation for the unseen miracles that occur in our lives.​
    A song of thanksgiving,
    Shout in triumph to Hashem, all the earth.
    Serve Hashem with joy,
    come before the Eternal with happiness.
    Know that Hashem is the Eternal One,
    the One who made us, and to whom we belong,
    the people, the flock of the Eternal’s pasture.
    Enter the Eternal’s gates with thanksgiving,
    the Eternal’s courts with praise.
    Thank the Eternal, praise the Name.
    For Hashem is good, mercy everlasting,
    faithfulness, enduring through all generations.​

    In The Kaddish

    The scholars of Kabbala have identified a number of different mystical allusions in the Kaddish prayer. For example, the phrase "Ve'yishtabach Ve'yitpa'ar Ve'yitromam Ve'yitnasei Ve'yit'hadar Ve'yit'aleh Ve'yit'halal" consists of seven words, each of which begins with the letter "Vav," which has the numerical value of six. The product of seven and six is forty-two, and thus this phrase alludes to the forty-two letter Name of God. By the same token, each of these seven words consists of six letters.[22]

    The Kaddish sanctifies the great name of HaShem, that is the great name of forty-two letters.

    The Kaddish is the means for the elevation of the People of Israel from one stage to the next in their journey of life, leading ultimately to Olam Haba.

    Cities of refuge

    The first six words of the Shema followed by the forty-two words of the Ve’ahavta are a picture of the cities which were given to the Levites.[23] The Levites were given forty-two cities in addition to the sixcities of refuge. This suggests an intrinsic connection between the Shema and the Levitical cities.

    Bamidbar (Numbers)35:6 And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

    When it is proven that a person killed unintentionally, he is banished to one of the six cities of refuge or one of the forty-two Levitical cities, to protect him from the vengeance of the slain man's relatives. He must stay there and not leave the city or its city limits for any reason whatsoever, until the death of the Kohen Gadol[24] who served at the time that he was sentenced to exile.

    Bamidbar (Numbers) 35:6 And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee thither; and beside them ye shall give forty and two cities.

    The cities of refuge are closely connected to the cities of the Levites. They appear in the same chapter in the Torah. In fact, the forty-two Levite cities function as cities of refuge[25]. The cities of refuge are under the jurisdiction of the Levites, and more specifically, the High Priest. When an unintentional killer dwells within the city of refuge he becomes the “property” of the High Priest. He lives within his city and therefore belongs to him. Although by no means a slave, he still lives under the dominion of the High Priest. The same law governing the release of a permanent Jewish slave upon the death of his master[26]applies here. The unintentional killer may leave only upon the death of his “master”, the High Priest.

    What was the point of having the manslayer flee to a city of refuge? A manslayer was one who had killed someone unintentionally. Chazal teach that this accident occurred because the manslayer did not take special precautions to insure that it could not happen. In other words, he did not have love for his fellow. To correct this lack of love, this failure to be cautious, HaShem sends the manslayer and his teacher to a city of refuge. These cities are populated by the Levites and priests who primary job was to teach Torah. Further, the priests were the descendants of Aharon who had a special knack for bringing peace between a man and his neighbor. Thus the Levitical cities were the ideal environment to rehabilitate the manslayer. The manslayer could learn Torah by observing it in the actions of those who were trained and called to teach Torah.

    The forty-two cities which were given to the Levites are going to be inhabited by those who are close to HaShem because of their service in the Beit HaMikdash and because their primary job is to teach Torah. The primary way of teaching Torah is by modeling a life of Torah. This suggests that the Levites are re-creating Gan Eden and teaching Torah to the Bne Israel in such a way that they, too, are ascending back to the state that they had at Gan Eden. Both entities are part of the process of recreation. Forty-two is the perfect number to describe this process.

    Finally, Rashi, on Bereshit 4:16, offer the following insight into the cities of refuge:

    to the east of Eden --There his father was exiled when he was driven out of the Garden of Eden, as it is said (3:24) “and He stationed at the east of the Garden of Eden, etc., to guard” the way of approach to the Garden, from which we can learn that Adam was there. And we find that the easterly direction always offers asylum for murderers, as it is said (Deut. 4:41): “Then Moses separated, etc.” [three cities of refuge]in the direction of the sunrise”-[Mid. Devarim Rabbah, Lieberman, p.60; Tan. Buber ad loc.]. Another explanation: בְּאֶרֶץנוֹד means that wherever he went, the earth would quake beneath him, and the people would say, “Go away from him; this is the one who killed his brother” [Mid. Tan., Bereishith 9].

    In Time

    There are forty-two days between the end of Pesach and Shavuot. During this time we are counting the Omer and working on ourselves to be able to stand before HaShem and receive the Torah. Since therevelation at Mt. Sinai is a recreation of Gan Eden, we can begin to understand that the work of the omer period is to change ourselves back to the state we had in the Garden. At Sinai, we again stood in the presence of The Creator for the revelation of the Torah, which is the blueprint for creation. HaShem looked into His Torah and used it to create the world.

    The forty-two days between Pesach and Shavuot are connected by Sefirat HaOmer, the counting of the omer. They are also connected in that Shavuot is the completion of Pesach; this is why Shavuot is also called Atzeret.

    Thus we see that the number forty-two is concealed within our omer count; and its meaning and significance is bound up in unifying these two festivals. Finally, the result of counting forty-two, at Sinai, is a new man who again walks with HaShem in the Garden.

    Creation

    The Zohar understands the recounting of these forty-two stations on a mystical level. According to the Kabbalah, God brought the world into being by virtue of the first forty-two letters of the Torah, the forty-two building blocks or stages of creation. The forty-two stations of travel in Masei echo the genesis of the world and reflect a second process of creation, one that lasted forty-two years. In recounting the forty-two journeys, Moses now tells B’nai Israel that in fact, a new creation has occurred. The creation of the nation has paralleled the world.[27]

    Zohar Hadash, Ma’amar 42 Journeys When G-d brought the Jews out from Egypt, He brought them out with the mystery of the 42-letter name, just as He created heaven and earth…

    Rabbi Avraham Sabba (d. 1508) explains the connection:

    These journeys were something remarkable: the conclusion of the entire Torah… Just as the Torah begins with the story of creation, which alludes to the 42-letter name, so too, it ends (Masei is the end of the main part of the Torah, as Devarim is treated differently) with the record of the 42 journeys, which correspond to the 42-letter name. This hints to the fact that the Torah is all-inclusive, bound and sealed in a single entity… There is no division in it at all; for its start is bound to its end and its end to its beginning.[28]

    Shabbat

    We have a several times that the number forty-two is found at the beginning and end of Shabbat.

    As the women are lighting the two Shabbat candles eighteen minutes before sundown, the men are in the synagogue reciting the prayer Ana b'koach just before Lecha Dodi. This prayer contains the forty-twoletter name of HaShem. The men will pray this prayer again during Shacharit services just before Pesukei D'Zimrei.

    The purpose of prayer is for a person to change himself into what he needs to be to cause HaShem to heed his prayer. The hard work of prayer is to change yourself, as we have learned in a previous study. As they ascend in their prayers towards a union with HaShem, they reach a point where they are in the process of becoming a new creation, bonded with HaShem. This process reaches a significant peak at the Ve'ahavta, which we have already studied.

    At the end of Shabbat, we again find the number forty-two. The havdallah candle is lit forty-two minutes after sundown. This seems like a peculiar place to find forty-two. After all, Shabbat is ending. The most beloved of days is ending. How can this be a time of ascent?

    Shabbat is the plan and the result. It is the life of the week, the spark of kedusha[29] which animates time.

    Shabbat rest is an opportunity for introspection. What have I achieved this week? How am I better, more aware, more sensitive? Where do I need to develop in particular? Stock taking; facing up to oneself honestly. This itself is a faint reflection of the eternal facing up to oneself which is of the essence of the next world. The meditation of Shabbat is the meditation of being, not becoming. But from that awareness the next week’s becoming is generated.

    Shabbat ends with havdallah, the ceremony of “distinguishing” the holy from the mundane. A profound lesson can be learned from havdallah which is part of the theme we have been studying.
    Shabbat exits, the week begins. There is a natural sense of let-down, holiness has left, the lower state is experienced. This is why we smell spices at havdallah, to revive the wilting neshama.

    But a deep secret is revealed when we take wine for havdallah! Wine is used when elevation occurs. What is the meaning of this paradox?

    The idea is as follows. Certainly the week begins with the sadness of sensing Shabbat fade. The relinquishing of kedusha is palpable. We smell spices. But the week’s beginning means a new opportunity to build, to elevate our present status towards another Shabbat which will be higher than the last, which will reflect another week of work and growth added to all the previous ones! We take wine! This is called “a descent for the purpose of elevation”, a higher and greater elevation than before.

    Shabbat is closely related to the idea of teshuva[30]. The letters of Shabbat are also those of tashev the root of teshuva. Shabbat is the celebration of the remembrance of Creation, a return to the primal, perfect state, a return to the source. Teshuva is a return to the pure state, the state which existed before sin caused its damage. But more than this: just as each Shabbat is built by a descent from the previous one into the work of the week, so too the state of teshuva is in one way higher than the original unblemished state which preceded sin.

    Teshuva, when motivated and performed correctly, transforms sin into merit! The mechanism of this seeming paradox is this: before a person sinned, the potential for that sin was latent in the personality. It was an undiscovered, unexpressed weakness waiting to break through. The act of sin revealed it and made it actual in the personality. Before the sin there was a serious deficiency in the personality, that person carried a flaw; the opportunity to sin proved that, the flaw was revealed.

    The definition of teshuva is that when it has been sincerely performed the person has reached a state in which, if presented with the opportunity and temptation to sin again, he would not do so. The flaw has been removed! Sin revealed the weakness, teshuva corrected it. Amazingly, the sin was an integral part of the process of reaching a new level where the personality defect which led to that sin, has been eradicated; the sin itself has been uses as a tool for growth, it has been transformed into a merit!

    Of course, one may not sin deliberately in order to utilize this process, in fact, sinning deliberately for this purpose blocks that path to teshuva. The ideal pathway is to recognize a character flaw before it manifests as sin and to eliminate it immediately. In this way development of the personality can take place without the damage of sin. But the fact remains that if a flaw is unrecognized and uncorrected and leads to sin, teshuva can redeem and even improve.

    Our pathway again, a state unblemished by sin, a descent into the state of sin , and ascent to a new level of growth, stronger and clearer. The descent has turned out to be “a descent for the purpose of elevation”.

    So we see our overall theme reflected most seminally in the cycle of Shabbat and the week; a high beginning, a descent, a loss of that high level of kedusha, but only for the purpose of being able to work, to achieve. And then the result of that work: a return to the dimension of the beginning, higher, more inspired, more sensitive; closer to that final Shabbat and better prepared. We have joined with the Shabbat and become a new, more elevated creation, bonded to HaShem. Thus we signify this by lighting the havdallah candle forty-two minutes after sundown.

    In Sefirat HaOmer

    When we count the omer, we work on each of seven traits as found in the sefirot. On the forty-second day of our count, we encounter the sefirah of Malchut she'be'Yesod.

    Malchut is the attribute of nobility and sovereignty.

    Yesod is bonding and unity.

    Yesod is the place of the brit mila and is the organ of the conception of a new creation. Thus we can see that the forty-second day of Sefirat HaOmer would be for the creation of a noble man, an Ish.

    In the Calendar

    Bachya (13th century AD) used an ELS[31] with spacing of forty-two, that started with the
    first letter of Bereshit[32] - ב
    then went to the
    42nd letter following that ב - ה
    then went to the
    42nd letter following that ה - ר
    then went to the
    42nd letter following that ר - ד
    to produce the sequence בהרד, which he showed to produce the 29.530594 day synodic Lunar month.

    Bachya did not claim to have discovered the Torah-coding of the Jewish Lunar month, but gave credit to Nechunya (1st century AD).

    The crossing of the Red Sea took place on Nisan twenty-one, on the seventh day of Passover. Again we see HaShem giving His people laws and decrees before the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. This event took place forty-two days before the Torah was given on Mount Sinai. On this day the Bne Israel will be immersed in the Yam Suf[33] and be baptized into Moses.

    1 Corinthians 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea

    Baptism, as we learned when we studied the number forty, is a return to the state we had at Eden. Further, Moshe is the first redeemer, so being baptized into Moshe is the bonding of Bne Israel with The Redeemer. Being baptized into Moshe means being bonded with the ultimate Redeemer, Mashiach.

    When the Bne Israel emerged on the side of the Yam Suf, they were ready to begin the forty-two days of growth that would allow them to receive the Torah, which was a recreation of Gan Eden.

    There is another way of looking at the sefirah. Since there are forty-two days between Pesach and Shavuot, we could present the sefirot which form our Omer count as beginning on the day after the seventh day of Pesach. The Sfat Emet points out that in addition to these forty-two journeys, there are an additional seven where the nation actually retreats to a previous encampment.

    The following chart illustrates the connection between the sefirat HaOmer and the wilderness camps in Bamidbar 33:

    Finally, the Sefer Ha-Temunah establishes the age of the world, at least according to some classical interpretations, at forty-two thousand years. That is, the world was created forty-two thousand years old when Adam was created. This teaching was subject to a highly significant interpretation by Rabbi Isaac of Akko. According to Rabbi Akko and some Midrashic sources, the 42,000 years, translates the age of the Earth as 15,340,500,000 years old.[34]

    If one were to dig a tunnel between any two points on earth, one would find that it would take forty-two minutes to traverse the distance within the tunnel, using gravity. No matter how long or short the tunnel is, as long as the tunnel is straight, it will take exactly forty-two minutes to traverse the tunnel when we use gravity alone for our motive force.

    Building the Beit HaMikdash

    Forty-two is associated with the building of the Beit HaMikdash, as can be seen from:

    Divre HaYamim (2 Chronicles) 1:18 - 2:1 Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of HaShem, and a house for his kingdom. And Solomon counted out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, and eighty thousand men that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.

    In the above pasuk, king Shlomo appointed 3,600 to oversee 150,000. We can see, therefore that forty-two (150,000 divided by 3,600 = 42) is the maximum number of workers that one person can oversee. Chazal comment on this by examining the following pasuk:

    Ruth 2:5-6 5 Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers: ‘Whose damsel is this?’6 And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said: ‘It is a Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the field of Moab;

    The overseer whom Boaz addressed was “standing over the reapers” in a high, prominent place so that his voice would carry far. Chazal point out that he was supervising forty-two harvesters:

    Midrash Rabbah Ruth IV:6 THEN BOAZ SAID TO HIS SERVANT THAT WAS SET OVER THE REAPERS (II,5). Over how many was he appointed? R. Eliezer, the son of Miriam, said: He was set over forty-two, as we see from the verse, And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel... and he set three score and ten thousand of them to bear burdens, and fourscore thousands to be hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people at work (II Chron. II, 16 f.). One who adopts this plan is able to go on, and knows what he is about.

    We know that as king Shlomo built the Beit HaMikdash by combining many stones, so HaShem will send His angels to gather the elect from the four corners of the earth and form them into the body ofMashiach:

    Colossians 1:18 And he (Mashiach) is the head of the body, the assembly: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all he might have the preeminence.

    From this we can understand that the forming of many stones into a Beit HaMikdash and the forming of many tzaddikim into the body of Mashiach is associated with the number forty-two. Man, as a microcosm of the universe[35], is the ultimate act of creation. Further, only in Gan Eden did we have a royal man (Adam) who had in his loins the souls of everyone who would ever live. Adam pictures many parts joined into one.

    The process of building and supervising this construction project, is the process of forty-two. So, again we see that creation is associated with forty-two.

    It comes out that the menorah had a total of twenty-two cups. There were eighteen on the six branches, three on each branch, and an additional four on the stem of the menorah. The menorah also had elevenspheres, six on the six branches, three on the shaft where the branches extend, one near the bottom, and one in the upper three handbreadths of the shaft. The last sphere was together with the three upper cups. The menorah also had nine flowers. There were six, one on each of the six branches, and three on the shaft. All these were absolutely necessary if the menorah was to be valid. If one of the above forty-two cups, spheres, or flowers were missing, the menorah was invalid. The same is true if any of the seven branches or seven lamps were missing.

    The forty-two of the menorah points to it’s function of providing the light of the world which leads us back to HaShem and a turning from our wicked ways.

    Bilaam, Balak, and Elisha

    Balak prepared seven altars, with two sacrifices on each altar, three times:

    Bamidbar (Numbers) 23:1 And Bilaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

    Bamidbar (Numbers) 23:14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

    Bamidbar (Numbers) 23:29 And Bilaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.

    Thus we have three sets of fourteen sacrifices, for a total of forty-two sacrifices.

    Before each attempt to curse Bne Israel, Bilaam has Balak erect seven altars and offer two sacrifices upon each, such that in total he brought forty-two sacrifices.

    Sanhedrin 105b Rab Judah said in Rab's name: One should always occupy himself with Torah and good deeds, though it be not for their own sake, for out of good work misapplied in purpose there comes [the desire to do it] for its own sake. For as a reward for the forty-two sacrifices offered up by Balak, he was privileged that Ruth should be his descendant; [as] R. Jose b. Huna said: Ruth was the daughter of Eglon, the grandson of Balak, king of Moab.

    The Gemara takes this incident with Balak and connects it to an incident in Sefer Melachim:

    Sotah 47a - R. Hanina said: On account of the forty-two sacrifices which Balak, king of Moab, offered, were forty-two children cut off from Israel.

    The Gemara here refers to a somewhat obscure incident told towards the beginning of Sefer Melachim II, at the end of chapter 2. Shortly after Eliyahu's death, his disciple and successor as prophet, Elisha, comes to the city of Bet El and is greeted by a group of youngsters who hurl insults at him. Elisha curses them with HaShem's Name, at which point two bears come out of the forest and tear apart forty-two of them.

    Melachim (II Kings) 2:22-25 And the waters were healed until this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke. 23. And he went up from there to Beth-El; and as he was going up by the way, there came out little children from the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, you bald head; go up, you bald head. 24. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came out two female bears from the wood, and tore forty two children of them. 25. And he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.

    The Zohar then comes to connect these two incidents:

    Soncino Zohar, Shemoth, Section 2, Page 224a - R. Simeon said: ‘Observe that the forty-two offerings brought by Balaam and Balak were offerings diverted from the “other side” towards the Holy One, blessed be He, and so the “other side”, which is called “curse”, had to be repaid these offerings from Israel. This is the inner implication of the verse, “And he looked behind him and saw them”. That is to say, “behind him”, meaning the “other side”, which stands behind the Shechinah. He turned “and saw them”, as being meet for punishment; “and cursed them in the name of the Lord”, inducing the Divine Name, as it were, to discharge the debt owing to the “other side”, for the latter's offerings which had been diverted to Him. Thus all is made right before the Holy One, blessed be He, and not a single act is lost, whether for good or for evil.

    Soncino Zohar, Shemoth, Section 2, Page 224b - Straightway “he [Elisha] cursed them in the name of the Lord”. “And there came forth two bears”-she bears, as indicated by the feminine numeral sh'tayim, big with offspring, “and tare forty and two children of them”, in correspondence, as has been explained, to the number of offerings brought by Balak.

    This is a very perplexing incident. How can the taunts of children make them worthy of death? After all, HaShem is clearly with Elisha and He is clearly the one controlling the two bears. Thus we must conclude that HaShem is executing the death penalty on these forty-two, because of their words.

    Since the youth’s taunt involves the head and the lack of hair, we can begin to understand that the sin that they commit is idolatry. After all, demeaning a prophet and implying that he has no connection with HaShem, is tantamount to idolatry; and we know that idolatry does carry the death penalty. Further, the Zohar has also connected these children with the idolatry and rebellion of Balak and Bilaam.

    The death of these young people is ridding the land of that which is impure. At the same time, it is sanctifying the name of HaShem by exacting the Torah punishment for idolatry. The land of Israel, then, is being recreated to become what it was in the beginning: Gan Eden.

    Chazal also teach us that in the merit of Balak's forty-two sacrifices, he was privileged to be the progenitor of Ruth, who was the mother of royalty. Even the mitzvot of the wicked must have a reward. And, as we learned in a previous study, the wicked do not exist in the Olam HaBa and their reward must be paid out in this world. The story of Ruth is thus associated with recreation and a return to Gan Eden.

    In Mashiach’s genealogy

    Balak built three sets of seven altars where he offered three sets of fourteen sacrifices for a total of forty-two sacrifices. We have a similar numbering idea in Sefer Matityahu, where we have three sets of fourteen generations for a total of forty-two generations:

    Matityahu 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Mashiach are fourteen generations.

    This genealogy starts with Avraham. Why start with Avraham? After all, the genealogy in Luqas goes all the way back to Adam.[36]

    Avraham was the first king of the whole world. Avraham defeated the king of Assyria, the king of Babylon, and two additional kings. He defeated these kings after they had already defeated five other great kings[37]. The area that these kings ruled would have been nearly all of the known world. This suggests that the genealogy of Mashiach was specifically traced through kings and princes, all the way back to the first of the Patriarchs and the progenitor of Israel. This genealogy went back to the beginning of the covenant people, to the very seed of the Bne Israel.[38]

    Matityahu enumerates the lineage of Mashiach ben David to forty-two names, in three sets of fourteen. It is no coincidence that the name David, in Hebrew, has three letters (דוד), whose total numerical value is fourteen. (each letter of the Hebrew alphabet represents a number; ד = 4, ו = 6, ד = 4). Further, David HaMelech was king of Israel for a total of 42 years!

    Thus we see that the number fourteen alludes to King David. Interestingly, when we go back to the beginning, we are going back to when all the Bne Israel were contained in the loins of Avraham. We were one people in Avraham, even as we were one in Adam HaRishon.

    I believe that the following midrash speaks to the genealogy of Mashiach (The Bread from Heaven):

    Midrash Rabbah - Exodus XXV:5 - and God said, BEHOLD, I WILL CAUSE TO RAIN BREAD FROM HEAVEN FOR YOU. R. Judah b. Shalom the Levite said in the name of R. Jonah, and also R. Levi in the name of R. Hama b. R. Hanina said: The manna descended after [they had travelled] forty-two stages.

    Finally, the Zohar also points us to Mashiach and uses very graphic terminology to do so.

    Soncino Zohar, Bereshith, Section 1, Page 1a Rabbi Hizkiah opened his discourse with the text: As a lily among thorns, etc. (S.S. II, 2). ‘What’, he said, ‘does the lily symbolise? It symbolises the Community of Israel. As the lily among thorns is tinged with red and white, so the Community of Israel is visited now with justice and now with mercy; as the lily possesses thirteen leaves, so the Community of Israel is vouchsafed thirteen categories of mercy which surround it on every side. For this reason, the term Elohim (God) mentioned here (in the first verse of Genesis) is separated by thirteen words from the next mention of Elohim, symbolising the thirteen categories of mercy which surround the Community of Israel to protect it. The second mention of Elohim is separated from the third by five words, representing the five strong leaves that surround the lily, symbolic of the five ways of salvation which are the “five gates”. This is alluded to in the verse “I will lift up the cup of salvation” (Ps. CXVI, 13). This is the “cup of benediction”,which has to be raised by five fingers and no more, after the model of the lily, which rests on five strong leaves in the shape of five fingers. Thus the lily is a symbol of the cup of benediction. Immediately after the third mention of Elohim appears the light which, so soon as created, was treasured up and enclosed in that b'rith (covenant) which entered the lily and fructified it, and this is what is called “ tree bearing fruit wherein is the seed thereof”: and this seed is preserved in the very sign of the covenant. And as the ideal covenant was formed through forty-two copulations, so the engraven ineffable name is formed of the forty-two letters of the work of creation.’

    These forty-two copulations are a clear allusion to the forty-two sets of ‘parents’ who are the ancestors of Mashiach (remember that the covenant equals Torah Equals Mashiach) in Matityahu chapter 1.

    In Sefer Revelation

    In sefer Revelation we have two occurrences of the number forty-two. This sod level sefer is revealing a great deal by using the number forty-two.

    Revelation 11:2 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

    In this first passage we see that the Bne Israel are about to be judged. We know that they are being judged because that is always the purpose of a tape measure, or measuring stick. Consider that when a builder uses a tape measure, that he is evaluating an item for a particular purpose. If the item is too small for this purpose, it is rejected. If it is too big for this purpose, then it is corrected. Thus when Yochanan is told to measure the Temple, the altar, and them that worship therein, he is being to told to judge them for their fitness to the purpose of creation.

    The Temple is a symbol of Adam in Gan Eden. It is a picture of the lively stones[39] that make up the body of Mashiach. The judgment of the Temple and its worshippers is a necessary precondition for their return to HaShem. Some may be corrected and some may be rejected. This process of judgment is to take forty-two months.

    In addition to being a time of judgment for the Bne Israel, this also seems to be a time of judgment for the Gentiles. The ultimate goal of all judgment is to correct those that are correctable and to reject those that can not be corrected. This process of judgment is the process of the forty-two camps of the Bne Israel. During the forty year journey, some were rejected, some were corrected, and the rest were prepared for the return to the Land of Israel, Gan Eden.

    Revelation 13:3-5 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world[40] wondered after the beast. 4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

    In this second use of forty-two, in sefer Revelation, we see another judgment that reminds us a bit of the incident with the forty-two young people who used their mouth’s to commit idolatry and rebellion. In sefer Revelation we see a beast with a mouth who blasphemes and thereby rejects HaShem. HaShem’s goal for this beast is the removal of all those not written in Sefer HaChaim, the Book of Life – The Torah. This judgment of the Gentiles and the Bne Israel is used to prepare the land for its elevations and to prepare those who are written in the Book of Life, to dwell therein with HaShem. Thus we would expect forty-two to be associated with this process that “re-creates” man for Gan Eden.

    Megillat Esther records that two years after Koresh (Cyrus) gave the order to rebuild Jerusalem, Achashverosh became King. Out of the millions of Jews who were taken captive to Babylon, forty-two thousand returned to Israel.​

    Hakham Schach proves the value of Torah as the self-sufficient repository of all knowledge by asking, rhetorically: "Whence did Chazal know that the earth was forty-two times larger than the moon, and that the sun was approximately one-hundred-and-seventy times larger than the earth[41], if not from the power of the Torah?​

Judah said: [The dreams] betokened fourteen years [of famine and plenty respectively], since Pharaoh saw it thus. R. Nehemiah said: Twenty-eight years of each, since Pharaoh dreamt thus and narrated thus to Joseph. The Rabbis said: Forty-two years were intended, since Pharaoh dreamed, recounted his dreams to Joseph, and Joseph repeated them to Pharaoh. R. Jose b. R. Hanina said: The famine lasted two years, for as soon as Jacob went down thither it came to an end. And when did [the remaining years] return? In the days of Ezekiel, as it says, And I will make the land of Egypt desolate (Ezek. XXIX, 12).

    Forty-Two By Rabbeinu Bechaye
    Rabbenu Bachya writes that the seven healthy cows and the seven emaciated cows in Pharaohs dream equals fourteen; he then recalled the dream to Yosef, another fourteen; Yosef repeated the dream over the course of his interpretation, for a total of forty-two. Now two years into the famine, Yaakov came down to Egypt and the famine ended as a result of the blessing which accompanied him. However, the promise of the forty-two years was still to be fulfilled, as over a thousand years later the pasuk states, "Egypt will be desolate, it will not be settled for forty years"[44] - thus completing the total of forty-twoyears of famine.​

    Introduction

    In this study I would like to understand the significance of the number forty-two (42). The meaning of the number forty-two is very profound. This number is at the root of creation and affects our lives directly. Each particular number has a unique meaning that speaks to it’s significance, and forty-two is no different. Whenever we speak of the significance of numbers, we are speaking of a mystical meaning which must be explained in the physical world, yet it requires a teacher to lead us to understand its significance.

    As we begin this fascinating study of the number forty-two, please keep in mind that Chazal[1] have taught that every occurrence of the number forty-two, and indeed every other number, is related to every other occurrence, whether in the Tanach[2] or within the natural world. Thus a great deal of insight can be gained by comparing and analyzing different sets of forty-two.

    We find the number forty-two in many places, sometimes this number is revealed by being mentioned explicitly, and sometimes this number is concealed in a list of forty-two items which are not enumerated. This revelation and concealment hints to a man who is revealed to the world when he goes out, and to a woman who is concealed within the home that she builds for her family. Penultimately the mission of these two is to become one. Ultimately, the mission of the entire world is to become one with HaShem.

    To help us begin to understand this number, lets start with a working definition that we shall expand as we study. Forty-two signifies a new, unified creation that is a process with components.

    בם is also an allusion to the Written and the Oral Torah. The ב represents the Written Torah which begins with a ב. The מ represents the Oral Torah which begins with a מ.

    Forty-two is expressed in Hebrew as: Mem Bet - מב. To understand this number, we must first understand its components: Mem - מ and Bet ב, forty and two.

    Forty – Mem מ

    Every time one finds the number forty in Torah, its inner meaning is the ascent from one level to the next higher one. For example: We get a new mission at forty. But the attainment of a higher level can come only after first reaching and fulfilling all aspects of the previous level, and then making an emptiness in the middle to allow for the emergence of something entirely new.

    Forty finds perfection in mikveh[3] which has forty seahs of water and is spelled with two mems: מם. The word for “water” is mayim. The immersion in the mikveh is a return to the state we had in Gan Eden, a state where a man composed of male and female parts could walk with HaShem in the garden.

    Forty is composed of 4 X 10, of י X ד.

    The fact that forty is four times ten means that we need to understand a bit about these two numbers, in order to complete our understanding of the number forty-two.

    Ten is a unity made up of parts. The nature of the parts is subsumed into the nature of the unity. This explains how a minyan of ten men in the synagogue becomes a spiritual entity at prayer time. A minyan is an entity capable a saying kaddish and other special prayers that can only be said when a congregation of at least ten men is present.

    The Kaddish sanctifies the great name of HaShem, that is the great name of forty-two letters. The Kaddish is composed of units of four and ten and twenty-eight words or letters; 4+10+28 = 42. The Kaddish is the means for the elevation of the Bne Israel from one stage to the next in their journey of life, leading ultimately to Olam Haba, the world to come.

    We learned in our study of the Temple that the body of Mashiach is a body composed of the righteous of Israel. This body is a unity composed of parts. The body is composed of Israel and the head is Mashiach. This is the ultimate expression of ten: A unity made of parts.

    The number four signifies completion or fullness.

    Now four times ten equals forty; so a complete category of being, or world, has forty aspects. In other words, forty represents the completion of a whole mode or way of being, and when one passes the number forty, One leaves that mode of being behind and enters an entirely different level, he enters another world. One gets an entirely new mission when he turns forty.

    Forty thus hints to the completion of a messianic mission that results in a man who has been born again.

    At this point we should have a reasonable understanding of the number forty. Now lets examine the last component of the number forty-two.

    Two – Bet ב

    The second letter of the Hebrew alef-bet, bet - ב, mirrors the symbolism of the number two. It is called Bet. The letter bet ב is the picture of a house with an open door. This letter is the first letter of the Torah and of the book of Bereshit (Genesis). Like the number two, bet stands for the beginning of man’s journey. If we look at the number two in a positive sense, it stands for man, his realm and all that was created by HaShem for man’s benefit. If we look at it in a negative light, two stands for all that is separate or opposed to HaShem.

    The number one implies that there exists but a single reality. It suggests absolute conformity. The number two represents separation, division, and disunity (the two items have undone that unity that existed when there was only one item). Two represents right and left, giving versus restraint. The number three, however, finds an underlying unity between disparate entities. Thus the thirteenth hermeneutic rule of Ishmael expresses this resolution as: When two Biblical passages contradict each other the contradiction in question must be solved by reference to a third passage.

    The number two is expressed as the female dimension (she can double herself – Thus the duplicated organs of the body are expressed in Hebrew by a feminine gender).

    Why did the Torah start with the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet and not the first? In his masterwork “The Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet”, Hakham M. L. Munk explains that the Hebrew letter “bet” with its numerical value of two: Symbolizes our world, since everything earthly is embedded in plurality. All that was created for man’s use came in pairs:

    The Torah – WRITTEN and ORAL;
    The Commandments – ‘Mitzvot’ – POSITIVE and NEGATIVE precepts;
    The Intermediaries – MOSHE and AHRON;
    The World – HEAVEN and Earth;
    The Luminaries – SUN and MOON;
    Human – MALE: ADAM and FEMALE: EVE;
    Two Tablets – BETWEEN MAN and GOD and BETWEEN MAN and his NEIGHBOR;
    Two Drives and Two Hearts – The EVIL Inclination and the GOOD Inclination;
    Two Worlds – THIS WORLD – ‘OLAM HAZEH’ and THE WORLD TO COME – ‘OLAM HABAH’

    Torah teaches us that everything, at all levels, comprises pairs: A giver and a receiver.

    At this point we understand the basic meaning of forty-two as expressed by the Hebrew letters. Now, lets look to see where we find the number forty-two to see how this definition is expressed in this world.

    Journeys of the Bne Yisrael

    There were forty-two camping places, or stages, to our journey in the wilderness, as detailed in Bamidbar (Numbers) chapter 33. You can read the details by referring to a previous study titled: Stages.

    Leaving Egypt to reach Eretz Israel was a process of elevation (aliyah) and the forty-two letter name helped the Jews in this endeavor.

    Notice the following verses from Bamidbar (Numbers) chapter 33:

    "They journeyed from Ra'amses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the month of the first month, on the day after the Pesach; Benei Yisrael left with a high hand in the sight of all of Egypt. And the Egyptians were burying those whom God had smitten - all the firstborn; and God had also executed judgments upon their gods" (3-4).

    "They journeyed from Sukkot and encamped at Eitam, which is on the edge of the wilderness" (6).

    "They journeyed from Eitam and turned back to Pi ha-Chirot, which faces Ba'al Tzefon, and they encamped in front of Midgal" (7).

    "They journeyed from before [Pi] ha-Hirot and passed through in the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and they walked a distance of three days in the wilderness of Eitam, and encamped at Mara" (8).

    "They journeyed from Mara and came to Eilim, and in Eilim there were twelve fountains of water and seventy palm trees, and they encamped there" (9).

    "They journeyed from Alush and encamped at Refidim, and there was no water there for the nation to drink" (14).

    "They journeyed from Kadesh and encamped at Hor ha-Har, on the border of the land of Edom" (37).

    "Aharon the Kohen ascended to Hor ha-Har, according to God's word, and he died there in the fortieth year after Benei Yisrael came out of the land of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first of the month" (38).

    "And Aharon was a hundred and twenty-three years old when he died at Hor ha-Har" (39)

    "The Canaanite king of Arad, who dwelled in the Negev, in the land of Canaan, heard that Benei Yisrael were coming" (40).

    "They journeyed from Ovot and encamped at Iyei ha-Avarim, on the border of Moav" (44)

    "They journeyed from Almon-Divlataima and encamped in the mountains of Avarim, before Nevo" (47)

    "They journeyed from the mountains of Avarim and encamped on the plains of Moav on the Yarden, near Yeriho" (48).

    "They encamped on the Yarden, from Beit ha-Yeshimot to Avel-ha-Shittim, on the plains of Moav" (49)

    Even a cursory glance at the above, reveals that the entire middle section, verses 15-35, follows the standard format. All the deviations are concentrated in the first fourteen verses and in the fourteen verses at the end. The deviations - additions, elaborations - emphasize the departure from Egypt and entering the uninhabited desert, on one hand, and then finally, after a lengthy stay in the desert, once again returning to civilization, specifically Eretz Yisrael.

    Thus the forty-two stops are divided into three sets. Each set contains fourteen verses.

    From the above table we see forty-two comprised of three sets of fourteen. Thus we see the same pattern we will see in the genealogy of Mashiach, the korbanot of Balak, the Midrash of the Egyptian famine, and in the forty-two letter name of HaShem.

    These were the journeys of the Bne Israel as they moved from this world of constriction[4] to the world of Gan Eden[5]. These journeys are also the same stages that every Jew experiences as he moves through life. These are journeys where the Bne Israel, and every Jew, were to work on themselves to prepare to be born again. That is why they were in the wilderness for forty years[6].

    How do we know that they were to be born again? As we learned in our study of the number forty, when one is immersed in the mikveh, one is returning to the state of his creation in Gan Eden. This was a state of sinlessness that allowed man (Adam) to walk with HaShem in Gan Eden.
    Bamidbar chapter 33 contains within it a summary of the entire forty years that the Bne Israel were in the desert, including all the locations the Bne Israel camped at, forty-two in all, starting with Ramses.

    At first thought, the number forty-two may not be significant, but the Pri Tzadik points out that forty-two is the number of letters found in the special and holy Name of HaShem that prophets used to pronounce and meditate on when going into a state of prophecy. Therefore, the Pri Tzadik teaches, these forty-two stops correspond to this forty-two letter Name.

    What is the significance of this correspondence?

    We know that each camp the Bne Israel established throughout their forty years in the desert was not merely a place to become rejuvenated; they were places to become reJEWvenated. In other words, each journey represented a new path to an even higher level of spiritual growth and connection to Torah, and each camp was the time and place to integrate that new level. This way, when it came time to leave, the Bne Israel were a new people, or, rather, the same people on a higher level. This was a process of growth that was to continue until the Bne Israel, simultaneously, reached perfection and the Land of Israel. The goal of the growth was to enable us to return to Gan Eden, The Promised Land!

    This, the Pri Tzadik points out, is also an analogy for life. Everyone has forty-two "stops" to make on his way to personal spiritual completion, for which he was put here on the earth. What that forty-second level will look like for each person will be different, but it means the same thing for all of us: Spiritual completion. The completion that comes from the two becoming one, the completion of a mission ofcreation.

    The Zohar understands the recounting of these forty-two stations on a mystical level.

    Soncino Zohar, Bereshit, Section 1, Page 30a - AND THE EARTH WAS VOID AND WITHOUT FORM. This describes the original state-as it were, the dregs of ink clinging to the point of the pen-in which there was no subsistence, until the world was graven with forty-two letters, all of which are the ornamentation of the Holy Name.

    According to the Kabbalah, HaShem brought the world into being by virtue of the first forty-two letters of the Torah, the forty-two building blocks or stages of creation. The forty-two stages of travel, in Bamidbar chapter 33, echo the genesis of the world and reflect a second process of creation, one that lasted forty years. In recounting the forty-two journeys, Moses now tells the Bne Israel that, in fact, a new creation has occurred. The creation of the nation has paralleled the creation of the world.[7]

    The title of the video above and representative for Nabs disinformation and deception is very true, but the surrounding descriptions are disinformation to varying degrees and will cause many personal tragedies following and when the 'personal expectation' of this event, 'closing all cycles of cycles' do not become happenstance as imagined or imaged by the expecteurs and 'new world dreamers'.

    Anyone reading this post, shall become privy to what this 'Earth' becoming a Star shall entail. Many of the descriptions of the Nabs presenters above are true in an encompassing sense. The earth will become a star, but this star will become a dark star not shining in a light created by the nuclear physics within stellar evolution, but the New Earth aka Gaia Serpentina will Shine a Dark Light into the universe. This dark light is a data stream which has accumulated in the 4-dimensional equivalent of the entire planetary structure.

    In 3-dimensional space and so in 4-dimensional spacetime, the Earth has a mass of so 6 trillion trillion kg and a volume of a spheroid say 40,000 km in circumference with a radius of so 6,500 km. In 4-dimensional space and so in 5-dimensional spacetime, this mass remains at it is and so encompasses all lifeforms, structures, objects and the history of the consciousness evolution of this planet since its birth so 4.7 billion years ago.

    But the volume of this planet as a data processor will 'shrink' to the size of a golfball so 3 centimetres across. This is technically called a 'Planetary Black Hole' in 4D embedded in its 3-dimensional lower dimensional self-expression or manifestation. The so called 'energy belt' or photon belt as seen in the diagram below reprents the inversion age of planet Earth much older than its geophysical age of 4.7 billion years and coincides with the Birth of the Universe as a 'superorb' so 14.4 billion years before the cosmic orb astrophysically known as the planet earth was born as a densification of the stellar nebula as the precursor of the local star system.

    I shall detail this 'inversion earth' as old as the creation itself and in more technical nomenclature later on in this countdown message from the Creator Monad cosmically entwined with his creation monad as the Dyad of ALL Existence of the I Am That Am I. This message does however represent a kind of 'last chance' or opportunity for the 'would be first harvest' and pioneers of the 'New World' with its new jurisdiction of the 'Old Universe' redefined and recreated. No more 'warnings' or decoding semantics of the encrypted prophetic timelines and codes shall be given, as the birthing process will engage the executive function from its legislative mode.

    There are a multitude of videos and websites published, which tell of a similar story line as of what this 2012 ascension date is all about.

    All of them have tuned into a real and very natural 'closing of an old time' and the 'beginning of a new time' in a particular context of continuity and contingency engaging many so called 'Et and ascension scenarios'.
    About 52,000 years ago, the mental evolution of a particular cosmic species, namely that of the Homo Sapiens or 'Wisdom Keepers' began.

    This mental evolution followed a very long timeline of evolving a suitable bodyform or morphology for this 'destined wisdom keeper genus' embedded in a subspace of the cosmic superspace and which began at the halfway nexus timemarker so 2,200 million years ago on the planet then known by the universal sentiences as Gaea, the focus of the Cosmic Mother of Baab for the Cosmic Father Abba.

    Multicellular organisms left the aquatic liquid environments of the primordial oceans formed in the self evolvement of Gaea as a cosmic consciousness vessel and as the destined 'Universal Mother' for all interterrestrial and extraterrestrial lifeforms and intelligences.

    After 8 minutes the Sun will get its first data feedback of the history. Then 13 minutes later, the solar system itself will send its solar absorbed data all over the place, back to the sun and the earth and to each other and also out of the starsystem to travel to the nearest starsystem and the intersteller spacetime, reaching The Centauri starsystem in 2017 and the Sirius starsytem in 2021 at lightspeed data propagation.

    All the planets will take less than 20 minutes after the New Gaia birth to 'talk to each other'. It will be like a web exploding AS the New Solar System with Gaia Serpentina its Mother. The planetary sentiences, often called 'Venusians' or the ETs of Saturn or whatever so shall become triggered into activities. This will manifest as a 'UFO' or perhaps a more extensive starship action for whatever ETs are present in this starsystem now. But Venus and Mercury will NOT disappear they will receive data and grow in enhancements of their data base as in regards to their own evolution, the evolution of this particular focused starsystem and the overall cosmic evolution from the birth of consciousness, so 2.2 billion years ago. This period of the 'mirror time' for the evolutionary shift is often NABS associated with genetic manipulation or 'seeding' by benevolent and/or malevolent extraterrestrial sentiences, which are then theorized to have planted the human genotype as either a 'harvestable energy source' or as a form of intergalactic experiment of genetic engeneering.

    The ET engagement with the hitherto multispeciated Homo Sapiens genotype was electromagnetic energy induction, incorporating however a monopolar vector from a higher dimensional vantage point.

    The 'visitations' of the ET lifeforms so manifested in a direct influx of the 'lifeforce' into the conception biology of the multispecied Homo Sapiens. Only what is known as the Cro Magnon derivative received this electromagnetomonopolar 'manipulation' of its nucleotidal sex-chromosomatic genetic encoding.     The mechanics of the 'magnetpolic current induction' is related to the science of quantum mechanics and its relationship to Gravitation and can be discerned on the technical messages from the Thuban database. It will suffice here to state, that the 'omnipresence' of the creator-creation dyad manifests as the most fundamental energy ingredients as the basic constituents of the physicalised universe. In brief, the creator monad manifests as a minimised displacement scale and so allows a maximisation of its energy in quantum form and a real science the Nabs deceivers term 'vibrations of the love and the light'. It is a frequency modulation in fact, but the 'tuning' of this cosmic quantum energy relates to an inherent quality of the superuniverse as the embedding medium of the lower dimensions in a higher structure, reflected in triplicities and quadruplicities and decoded in a cosmic form of astrology in terms of qualities and identities of cosmic elements and such labellings.

    The creator's monad is universally coupled in what is known as modular duality in a higher dimensional string-brane theory manifesting its omniphysics in 13 dimensions of interwoven timespaces. The creator's Abba-Monad of high frequency and small spacial extension then becomes 'dual' to the creation's Baab-Monad of low frequency and large spacial displacement.

    Abba's energy is then mirrored in the quantum scale of wormhole singularities and at the one and only true 'Love Frequency' of 3 Thousand Million Billion Trillion Cycles per cosmic second with a characteristic 'mass-eigen' or 'matter characteristic' Baab energy on the scale of the Galactic Cells, such as the Perseus-Milky Way 'male galaxy' coupled to its female partner of the Andromeda galaxy. Technically, this is decribed as the innermost foundations of Membrane-Theories of the Mother as Mystery as Magic as Membrane as Matrix or as Mary Magdalene. This labels of a multidimensional cosmology in 10 negatively curved spacial dimensions mirrored in the 11th dimension of positive curvature to effectively allow a hypergeometric doubling or twinning of the universe as a protoversal seedling spacetime in a 12 dimensional supercontinuum matrix of wormhole (aka Lovephoton) distributions, with the 13th dimensions allowing recircularisation. This then is the Ourobos of the serpent swalling its own tail or the Cosmic Dog chasing the same of the linearly and asymptotically expressed dynamics of the subplenum or the worlds of the lower dimensions becoming and evolving towards their highest dimensional self expression. The 10th dimension becomes the 1st linespace and the 11th the area-manifold space of the 2nd and the 12th the 3rd volume space of the commonly experienced 4-dimensional (flat Euclidean) spacetime, with the timedimensions being 'swallowed' or absorbed in the 13th dimension of this recircularisation. Deeper analysis and research shows how this relates to other fivefolded symmetries derived from a Nabs infected 'Sacred Geometry of Life' in the Fibonacci Codes and the manifestoes of Penrosian tiling patterns, the Curtis DNA Helix as a form of back to back decagons as twinned pentagons and in the chemistry of shechtmanite quasicrystals.

    The 'magnetopolic lightcurrent life induction' as the speculated upon 'origin of life' so is retraced to the nucleosynthesis of the chemical elements following the temperature evolution of the universe as a whole in the first minutes following the creation of the universe in the Quantum Big Bang and following an acceleration aka a Gravity defining inflationary epoch lasting until the first singularity wormhole (this is the Little Serpent of the Elders of the Council of Thuban) could manifest the energy distribution of this Inflationary era as a 'false spacetime matrix vacuum'.

    This is technically known as a de Broglie Phasechange and is characterised by the implementation in executive function of the World Logos of the lightspeed barrier as the lower dimensional cosmology of the invariance of lightspeed 'c' and the tachyonic 'higher dimensional' de Broglie phasespeed of the group velocity which must always exceed lightspeed 'c' , but is bounded by the phasespeed of the de Broglien matterwave which defined the 11-dimensional universe into which the 10-dimensional universe could expand into as the terrestrially known astrophysics of the universal protoseed as a decelerating gravitationally relativistic spacegeometric Black Body Planck Radiator embedded in a 4-dimensional hyperspherical spacetime curvature energy matrix as a holographic universe selfexistant as a 3-dimensional surface manifold.

    Then 2.2 billion years ago and 16.9 billion years after the Quantum Big Bang, this expansion of the lowerD universe attained or reached its own mirror bound of the higherD inflationary hyperaccelerated expansion from its wormhole singular selfstate and so could for the first time in the cosmic histor self-reflect on its own 'running away of the creation' from her creator of the 'Little Serpent'.

    This expansion at the 16.9 billion year marker is defined in the 'Invariance of the lightvelocity' and becomes the Nabs polluted 'Cyclic Universe' of Brahma by the nivana enthusiasts and related genres of misguided constructions of the human mental vanity expositions and explorations.

    The 10D universe is however asymptotic and expands at a slowing expansion rate and so can never reach the 11-D Mother Mirror in any dimension lower than the 'Logos guided lightpath' of the original constant expansion of the Quantum Big bang aka the Little Serpent's wormhole, which technically becomes a particular energy spaectrum defined by the Love photon frequency and is known as a Heterotic Supermembrane class 8x8=64 also named HE(8x8) by the global strin-membrane physics community and labeled EpsEss in the Thuban literature.

    In terms of the impending immediate 'graduation' of a small remnant part of the global populus of the 'Old Human genotype', albeit extended to all of humanity in a timeshift of mental affiliations to the 'New Physics' of the reconfiguration; the endosymbiosis of theis quantum mechanics manifests in a precise resonance physics to the encompassing timespace of the superunivers also known as the omniverse of the 13 dimensional selfclosure in dimensional continuity. The Nabs favoured terminology of 'density' is only partially applicable to this 'New World' but is appropriate in the idea, that the 'new space of the ascension' is in fact superposed onto the existing sppacetime matrix which is the 3rd dimension of the volume measurements.
    In particular the Nabs notion of the independence of the individual from the laws of the superuniverse and the self will of the individual in stating that the 'kingdom of God' is WITHIN and implying that no affiliations with the WITHOUT are required, is grossly erroneous.

    This resonance physics of the 'graduating class' requires harmonisation WITHIN the unified body or merkabah of the superuniverse, which is no less or more than the encoded and mysterious 'ChristBody of the Resurrection'. Subsequently and in logical deduction, any reader or 'old human' who disbelieves in this physical resurrection event of a standard 'flesh and blood' individual bodyform, albeit ensouled or conceived as and by the World Logos in terms of the authority of the preinflationary existence of the metaphysical cosmogenesis, cannot engage its multicellular merkabah construction to resonate with the superuniverse as fact of this disbelief of actually Living WITHIN this 'Body of the Resurrection'. The omniverse so cannot bestow its own bodysense dispensation to such non believers and the Logos deniers and antichrists, who not only deny this resurrection event of an advanced quantum wavemechanics engaging the wave-particle dualism of the heterotic supermembrane EpsEss, but even deny the physical istorical reality of the World LogosTwin JCCJ, can in no way participate to pioneer the 'New World' metaphysically manifested at the birthday of the 'New World'.

    The 'Kingdom is indeed WITHIN the superuniverse in 12 dimensions aka the 'Lion of Judah' or the 'Lamb of God', but remains trapped there in the individual until the World Logos is spewed out of the old human bodyform into the WITHOUT.

    (3) Jesus said, "If those who lead you say to you, 'See, the kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty."

Failing to getting to 'know yourself' however, will propagate the poverty of the individuation from the greater whole without the monad being a twinship as an ambassadorship of the JCCJ and AbbaBaab supertemplates.


    (7) Jesus said, "Blessed is the lion which becomes man when consumed by man; and cursed is the man whom the lion consumes, and the lion becomes man."

In particular, the maleness of the mind of Adam as the true image of Abba in Eden as the wavepart of the Creator-Creation monad will be shared with the femaleness of archetypical Eve of the body of the true image of Baab as the Cosmic Body or merkabah of the particularedness of the Omniverse.     (24) His disciples said to him, "Show us the place where you are, since it is necessary for us to seek it."
    He said to them, "Whoever has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, he is darkness."
    This then states, that heshe as the JCCJ Logostwin enabled to heal the original sinfulness of mental ignorance in fantasy Heaven, is by default WITHIN every lifeform in the omniverse; but that his activation in RESONANCE requires that the individual so 'hosting himher' is required to SHINE herhis Logos coupling and association into the WITHOUT to BE a 'Light in the World'.


    (70) Jesus said, "That which you have will save you if you bring it forth from yourselves. That which you do not have within you will kill you if you do not have it within you."

    (89) Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup? Do you not realize that he who made the inside is the same one who made the outside?"
    This saying reminds the reader that the critisized WITHOUT of the human 'universe' as the divers environments of multiple experiences and as judged by the human mind is but a reflection or mirror image of the thoughtforms created and entertained by this same human mindedness as the WITHIN. This WITHIN is secretized and treasured as PRIVATE and as an unseen world of the OUTSIDE world, but is nevertheless Known and evaluated by the Cosmic Lawgiver and Judge in the ultimate reconfiguration and metamorphosis of the old corruptible creation into its new version of incorruptibility.







    The planet Earth is 4.7 billion year old as a geophysical structure or celestial consciousness orb, destined to become the Mother of the Cosmos as a holofracal or 'Cosmic Quantum' of the Universe as a wholeness of the 10-dimensional hologram which represents the 11-dimensional positively curved (and so selfclosed in mathematical-hypergeometric terminology) universe and descriptive of an expanding Multiverse in 10 dimensions subject to the lightspeed invariance and acceleration limit 'c'. The Boundary Universe or Multiverse from the day of the cosmic rebirth of December 21st, 2012; is not subject to gravity and so allows a cosnstancy of 'c' to expand the 11-dimensional 'Mother orb' from the time of supercosmic contact at the timemarker of 16.9 billion years after the Quantum Big Bang and when the 11D Universe attained selfawareness in its ability to selfreflect upon its own existence and evolution.

    It was then when ALL ET sentiences were born in this act of self reflection. It was then, that the Universal Mother for the first time, saw Herself in the Mirror of the Father.     But it was at the Quantum Big Bang, that the true Cosmic Mother was born as a wormhole singularity and identical in physical parameters to the wormhole of the 'Little Serpent'.

    The difference was that the 'male' Abba singularity Love Quantum continued its manifestation of HIMSELF as the Big bang singularity of Expansing giving birth to the Superuniverse. This can be termed a White Hole equivalent as a SOURCE of LOVE able to diffuse and suffuse the entire spacetime as itself and defined in the pre Quantum Big bang epoch or string-membrane cosmic history.

    The 'female' Baab singularity of the Creation as HERSELF became however this selfsame SOURCE OF LOVE as a SINK or RECEIVER of this LOVE as a Black Hole equivalent and so this became the aforementioned string-membrane modular duality coupling, which is not necessary to be understood in the semantics of the advanced mathematical physics, but can be understood in the metaphysical equivalent of the World Logos and as indicated, if not described as simple as possible, in this final dispendsation before the cosmic reconfiguration.

    This BAAB Black Hole as a microquantum for the Universe itself is what defines the 'Photon Belt' or 'Zone of Quarantine' of Gaia from the Birth of the Universe to its rebirth of December 21st, 2012. In contemporasry astrophysical theory, this ''Size of the Mini Cosmic egg or ovum' is understood as a gravitational interaction zone or 'Hill Spheres' between orbiting stars or planets and moons etc. They are defined in so called Lagrangian points, where the gravitational forces between the orbs balance each other out and so relate to the dynamics of tides of oceans and gases, solar winds and plasma interactions between objects subject to celestial mechanics.

    The Hill Sphere of the Earth is however superposed on its own definition and nature as a Baab Black Hole of the original Quantum Big bang Singularity.

The Abba White Hole represents the Eps (for Energy Primary Sorcesink) part of the 11-dimensional EpsEss Supermembrane and the Baab Black Hole represents the 'entwined' Ess (for Enery Secondary Sinksource) part of the same.

    They have been together in the modular duality physics for the 19.11 billion years of the Universe's existence in physical reality and were born together from their common metaphysical and unphysicalised cosmogonical prehistory.

    In the particularisation of this membrane physics, the continuity of the lightspeed of c=300,000 cosmic kilometres per cosmic second is assigned to the 11-dimensional propagation of the electromagnetic universe under the constancy of 'c'; whilst the inversion of c as 1/c in the same lightpath units becomes the modular coupling between Abba and Baab as physical manifestation within the spacetime experience of physicality of their own metaphysical existence without the matrix of space and time and the timespace of the cosmology.

    The holofractal earth so begins its own expansion at inversed lightspeed 1/c simultaneously with the Relativistic classical universe described by contemporary astrophysics and cosmology as the aforesaid Planckian Black Body Radiator.

    The light speed of 300,000 km per second for a time of 19.11 billion years calculates as 300,000 km x 19.11 x 1 Billion x 365.2425 x 24 x 3600 and as about 181 Trillion Billion kilometres as the 11-dimensional size of the universe. this number can be expressed as the 19.11 billion lightyears as the actual electromagnetic age of the universe.

    The inversion lightspeed of 1/c is however 3.33... nanometers per cosmic second and for a time span of the 19.11 'civil years', this calculates as 3.33.nanometers x 19.11 x 1 Billion x 365.2425 x 24 x 3600 and as about 2 million kilometers.

    The entire universe therefore is fractalised as a holographic image in the 'Egg of Gaia' or the 'Quarantine Zone' of the planet earth, which encompasses a spheroidal geometry of radius 2 million kilometres, which encompasses the Moon so 384,000 kilometres from the earth's center and reaches so 4.8% to the orbit of the planet Venus of so 108 million kilometers from the sun and 2.6% to the orbit of Mars , so 228 million kilometres from the sun; the earth being so 150 million kilometres from the sun in the distribution of the orbits. The distance to Venus so becomes 42 million kilometres and the distance to Mars 78 million kilometres for the percentage from the fractal Gaian Mother as indicated.

    There have been 3 'Quantum Big Bangs' since the physical universe came into existence and December 21st, 2012 will become the 4th such 'Quantum Nexus marker' for the overall evolvement and emergence of the cosmos itself.

    A spaceship of 1-dimensional scale R and obscured by its high frequency of self vibratory eigenstate resonance, so will be able to 'materialize' in this expaned manifold space, increased by a scale factor of ¼R; as it will be able to utilise a diffusion factor of this scale of the order of the 3D-surface multiplier in ¼R. The energy density occupied by the spacecraft or ET vessel, so will decrease by this factor and allow materialization of the object, architectured in blueprinted 11-dimsnional energy patterns without the Gaian Cocoon of the light inversion, but requiring the spacetime matrix in Minkowski Euclidean flat 4D-spacetime to allow the Kaluza-Klein curvature of the 5D-Spacetime of the holographic universe to unfold itself within this 'stargated bubble'.

    The ET sentiences were born 2,200 million years ago and represent high frequency and higher dimensional energized thoughtforms, who utilise the 3-dimensional universe in a modus operandi of coevolution; inducing the necessary magnetopolic genetic architecture (by magnetopolic currents or electricity) into the density matrix of the Gaian Cocoon as the cosmically maximised impedence field as the 'Cosmic Mother' of all Life. This then takes the form of geometric forms, morphing into the microbial prokaryotic lifeforms, which then endosymbiotize into the eukaryotes of the multicellular organisms.     To construct a starcruiser or anything else in the higher dimensional realm, the ETs as say 4-dimensional plasmic bodyforms without the Gaian resistance matrix; script the required programs and subroutines to create the unmorphed body gestalt in blueprint form; utilizing the energy requirements directly from the source energy reservoir provided by the hyperinflation of the pre Big Bang Quantum Universe also known as the 'Vacuum Energy' or the Dark Energy or the Zero-Point-Energy of 'Free Space' in the 11th dimension.

    The de Broglie Hyperacceleration provided the Background spacetime in 11 dimensions, allowing the lower dimensional universe in 10 dimensions to 'have a place to go to' or a timespace to 'catch up to'. It was then, that the 10D mass-parametric cosmos became imaged and effectively doubled in Möbian-Klein Bottled membrane connectivity and allowing the rootreductive 12th dimension of the Vafa-Father Space to begin to manifest in its 3D stewardship focused at the center of the planet Terra Gaia Astralis in the conifoldment of 9=12-3 spacial dimensions in the freedom degrees of translation, rotation, vibration and quantization-holofractalisation. These are 4 worlds without time, yet allowing the worlds to time connect in dimensionalities 1 with 4 with 7 with 10 with 13=1 in Ouroborian selfclosure of the Omniverse, harbouring all potential multiverses, which must all be seeded on the one protoverse not in parallelism of many worlds academic BS and the watewred down Nabs; but in self relative phaseshifts of the protoversal Twin Logos Seedling Protoverse as the 'Once and Only Begottenness'.

    The 10D universe is decerating asymptotically towards it dimensional bridge technically provided by the recursive definition of its own dynamics; but its 11-dimensional 'information messenger' is the lightpath of the 1st Quantum Big Bang, which in a sense 'pioneers' the evolution of the 10D Cosmology.

    As this Vortex-Potential-Energy or VPE is far in excess of the inertia-mass coupled physicalised energy upon which all Big Bang Cosmologies are modelled; it also easily satisfies the photonic-mass equivalence encapsulated in the E=mc2 and E=hf and E=kT energy constraints of conservation and momentum and as required in the natural laws of the 10D restricted stringed cosmology.
    The Scale-Frequency mathematical relation can be summarized in the logistical statement for the generalised or universalised phase velocity: Phase-Velocity V(n) = R(n)f with scale R a function of the cycletime n (or Now Time of the NABS) and f a matter-causative independent frequency as the function of inversed time t=1/f.

    Briefly, all electromagnetic radiation or EMR as the universal mode of data transmission is created by the 'Acceleration of Electric Charges', such as the proton fusion in stars into helium emitting EMR in their centripetal acceleration of the Coulomb charges of say the electron (-) and the proton(+).

    Introduction

    The emergence of this book has been recent. The Gelasian Decree condemns the book 'called the Revelation of Thomas' as apocryphal, and that was all that was known of it. In 1908 a quotation in the Berlin MS. (eighth-ninth century) of Jerome's Chronicle was noticed by Dr. Frick. At the eighteenth year of Tiberius, the manuscript has this note:

    In a certain apocryphal book, said to be of Thomas the apostle it is written that the Lord Jesus told him that from his ascension into heaven to his second advent the time comprised is nine jubilees.

    This does not appear in any of the published texts. Already in 1907 F. Wilhelm had printed, in his Deutsche Legenden und Legendare, a text from a Munich MS. which attracted little attention, but was in fact the lost Apocalypse, or part of it.

    In the same year E. Hauler showed that a leaf of a fifth-century palimpsest at Vienna -the same that contains a leaf of the Epistle of the Apostles- was a fragment of this book. Professor E. von Dobschutz had, before this, begun making preparation for an edition of the Apocalypse based on manuscripts at Munich and Rome which has not yet appeared. In the Journal of Theological Studies for 1910 I printed the beginning of the book from a Verona MS. (of eighth century). Maffei had noticed this, and in 1755 Dionisi had printed it in a forgotten volume. In 1911 Dom Bihlmeyer printed another 'uninterpolated' text from Munich in the Revue Benedictine. Yet more: in 1913 Max Forster (Studien z. engl. Phlilol.: Der Vercelli-Codex) showed that the fifteenth sermon in the famous Anglo-Saxon MS. at Vercelli is an Old English version of this Revelation; that a Hatton MS. and the Blickling Homilies also contain matter drawn from it: and that a shortened Latin form is to be found in a dialogue printed by Suchier (L'Enfant sage, 1910, p. 272). Lastly, there are quotations from it in some odd -I think Irish- homilies in a Reichenau MS. at Carlsruhe, printed by Domde Bruyneas 'Apocryphes Priscillianistes' in the Revue Bened., 1907.

    There is, then, a quantity of material which we shall look to Professor Dohschutz to co-ordinate. Latin appears to have been the original language, and the data of the fuller text point to the days of Arcadius and Honorius. How much earlier the shorter text may be it is not easy to say: and I would not commit myself to the assertion that there is not a Greek document at the back of that.

    APOCALYPSE OF THOMAS

    Here beginneth the epistle of the Lord unto Thomas.

    Hear thou, Thomas, the things which must come to pass in the last times: there shall be famine and war and earthquakes in divers places, snow and ice and great drought shall there be and many dissensions among the peoples, blasphemy, iniquity, envy and villainy, indolence, pride and intemperance, so that every man shall speak that which pleaseth him. And my priests shall not have peace among themselves, but shall sacrifice unto me with deceitful mind: therefore will I not look upon them. Then shall the priests behold the people departing from the house of the Lord and turning unto the world (?) and setting up (or, transgressing) landmarks in the house of God. And they shall claim (vindicate) for themselves many [things and] places that were lost and that shall be subject unto Caesar (?) as also they were aforetime: giving poll-taxes of (for) the cities, even gold and silver and the chief men of the cities shall be condemned (here Verona ends: Munich continues) and their substance brought into the treasury of the kings, and they shall be filled.

    For there shall be great disturbance throughout all the people, and death. The house of the Lord shall be desolate, and their altars shall be abhorred, so that spiders weave their webs therein. The place of holiness shall be corrupted, the priesthood polluted, distress (agony) shall increase, virtue shall be overcome, joy perish, and gladness depart. In those days evil shall abound: there shall be respecters of persons, hymns shall cease out of the house of the Lord, truth shall be no more, covetousness shall abound among the priests; an upright man (al. an upright priesthood) shall not be found.

    On a sudden there shall arise near the last time a king, a lover of the law, who shall hold rule not for long: he shall leave two sons. The first is named of the first letter (A, Arcadius), the second of the eighth (H, Honorius). The first shall die before the second (Arcadius died in 408- Honorius in 423).

    Thereafter shall arise two princes to oppress the nations under whose hands there shall be a very great famine in the right-hand part of the east, so that nation shall rise up against nation and be driven out from their own borders.

    Again another king shall arise, a crafty man (?), and shall command a golden image of Caesar (?) to be made (al. to be worshipped in the house of God), wherefore (?) martyrdoms shall abound. Then shall faith return unto the servants of the Lord, and holiness shall be multiplied and distress (agony) increase. The mountains shall the comforted and shall drop down sweetness of fire from the facet, that the number of the saints may be accomplished.

    After a little space there shall arise a king out of the east, a lover of the law, who shall cause all good things and necessary to abound in the house of the Lord: he shall show mercy unto the widows and to the needy, and command a royal gift to be given unto the priests: in his days shall be abundance of all things.

    And after that again a king shall arise in the south part of the world, and shall hold rule a little space: in whose days the treasury shall fail because of the wages of the Roman soldiers so that the substance of all the aged shall be commanded (to be taken) and given to the king to distribute.

    Thereafter shall be plenty of corn and wine and oil, but great dearness of money, so that the substance of gold and silver shall be given for corn, and there shall be great dearth.

    At that time shall be very great rising (?) of the sea, so that no man shall tell news to any man. The kings of the earth and the princes and the captains shall be troubled, and no man shall speak freely (boldly). Grey hairs shall be seen upon boys, and the young (?) shall not give place unto the aged.

    After that shall arise another king, a crafty man, who shall hold rule for a short space: in whose days there shall be all manner of evils, even the death of the race of men from the east even unto Babylon. And thereafter death and famine and sword in the land of Chanaan even unto (Rome?). Then shall all the fountains of waters and wells boil over (?) and be turned into blood (or, into dust and blood). The heaven shall be moved, the stars shall fall upon the earth, the sun shall be cut in half like the moon, and the moon shall not give her light. There shall be great signs and wonders in those days when Antichrist draweth near. These are the signs unto them that dwell in the earth.     These are the seven signs the ending of this world. There shall be in all the earth famine and great pestilences and much distress: then shall all men be led captive among all nations and shall fall by the edge of the sword.

    On the first day of the judgement will be a great marvel (or, the beginning shall be). At the third hour of the day shall be a great and mighty voice in the firmament of the heaven, and a great cloud of blood coming down out of the north, and great thunderings and mighty lightnings shall follow that cloud, and there shall be a rain of blood upon all the earth. These are the signs of the first day (Monday in the Anglo-Saxon, and so for the other days).

    And on the second day there shall be a great voice in the firmament of the heaven, and the earth shall be moved out of its place: and the gates of heaven shall be opened in the firmament of heaven toward the east, and a great power shall be sent belched) forth by the gates of heaven and shall cover all the heaven even until evening (al. and there shall be fears and tremblings in the world). These are the signs of the second day.

    And on the third day, about the second hour, shall be a voice in heaven, and the abysses of the earth shall utter their voice from the four corners of the world. The first heaven shall be rolled up like a book and shall straightway vanish. And because of the smoke and stench of the brimstone of the abyss the days shall be darkened unto the tenth hour. Then shall all men say: I think that the end draweth near, that we shall perish. These are the signs of the third day.

    And on the fourth day at the first hour, the earth of the east shall speak, the abyss shall roar: then shall all the earth be moved by the strength of an earthquake. In that day shall all the idols of the heathen fall, and all the buildings of the earth. These are the signs of the fourth day.

    And on the fifth day, at the sixth hour, there shall be great thunderings suddenly in the heaven, and the powers of light and the wheel of the sun shall be caught away, and there shall be great darkness over the world until evening, and the stars shall be turned away from their ministry. In that day all nations shall hate the world and despise the life of this world. These are the signs of the fifth day.

    And on the sixth day there shall be signs in heaven. At the fourth hour the firmament of heaven shall be cloven from the east unto the west. And the angels of the heavens shall be looking forth upon the earth the opening of the heavens. And all men shall see above the earth the host of the angels looking forth out of heaven. Then shall all men flee.

Hear thou of me the signs which shall come to pass at the end of this world, when the end of the world shall be fulfilled (Vienna: that it pass away) before mine elect depart out of the world. I will tell thee that which shall come to pass openly unto men (or, will tell thee openly, &c.): but when these things shall be the princes of the angels know not, seeing it is now hidden from before

    Then shall there be in the world sharings (participations) between king and king, and in all the earth shall be great famine great pestilences, and many distresses, and the sons of men shall be led captive among all nations and shall fall by the edge of the sword (and there shall be great commotion in the world: Vienna omits).     And on the fourth day at the first hour, from the land of the east the abyss shall melt (so) and roar. Then shall all the earth be shaken by the might of an earthquake. In that day shall the ornaments of the heathen fall, and all the buildings of the earth, before the might of the earthquake. These are the signs of the fourth day.

    But on the fifth day at the sixth hour, suddenly there shall be a great thunder in heaven, and the powers of light and the wheel of the sun shall be caught away (MS. opened), and there shall be great darkness in the world until evening, and the air shall be gloomy (sad) without sun or moon, and the stars shall cease from their ministry. In that day shall all nations behold as in a mirror (?) (or, behold it as sackcloth) and shall despise the life of this world. These are the signs of the fifth day.

    And on the sixth day at the fourth hour there shall be a great voice in heaven, and the firmament of the heaven shall be cloven from the east unto the west, and the angels of the heavens shall be looking forth upon the earth by the openings of the heavens, and all these that are on the earth shall behold the host of the angels looking forth out of heaven. Then shall all men flee unto the monuments (mountains ?) and hide themselves from the face of the righteous angels, and say: Would that the earth would open and swallow us up! And such things shall come to pass as never were since this world was created.

    Then shall they behold me coming from above in the light of my Father with the power and honour of the holy angels. Then at my coming shall the fence of fire of paradise be done away -because paradise is girt round about with fire. And this shall be that perpetual fire that shall consume the earth and all the elements of the world.

    Then shall the spirits and souls of all men come forth from paradise and shall come upon all the earth: and every one of them shall go unto his own body, where it is laid up, and every one of them shall say: Here lieth my body. Then shall that angel be revealed which hath power over the holy angels: and all the angels shall go forth with him, sitting upon chariots of the clouds of mine holy Father (so) rejoicing and running upon the air beneath the heaven to deliver the elect that have believed in me. And they shall rejoice that the destruction of this world hath come.

    The words of the Saviour unto Thomas are ended, concerning the end of this world.

    None of the Latin texts seem to be complete. But we see that Wilhelm's text is a blend of two sorts of Apocalypse -that akin to Daniel which, under the form of prophecy, describes events contemporary with the author and continues them into the future: and that which is more akin to John and describes the signs of the end.

    Bihlmeyer's text has only the latter element, and as it agrees pretty closely with our oldest authority, the Vienna fragment (though in that, as I have said, something did precede Bihlmeyer's opening) I judge it to be the older of the two forms. The first part of Wilhelm's text with its clumsy indication of Arcadius and Honorius by means of their initials is much in the manner of the later Sibyllines, in which this particular trick is pushed to an absurd length, and used for quite imaginary personages as well as historic ones. In the second part Wilhelm's text departs widely from the Vienna fragment, and here again shows itself as probably inferior.

    The Apocalypse, we see, was known in England in the ninth century at least: and I think it must probably be regarded as the ultimate parent of a little piece which is found in innumerable manuscripts and has often been printed: I mean Jerome on the Fifteen Signs of the last days before the judgement. The beginning of this states that Jerome found it 'in the annals of the Hebrews'. Its popularity was very great. Illustrations of the Fifteen Signs are occasionally to be found in manuscripts, and I have seen them on the alabaster tablets carved at Nottingham in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, but the best-known representation of them is in a window at All Saints', North Street, York, where they are accompanied by mottoes taken from the 'Prick of Conscience',which used to be attributed to Richard of Hampole.

    The Anglo-Saxon version in the Vercelli Book (no. xv) begins thus:

    We are told in this book how Saint Thomas the apostle of God asked our Lord when the time of Antichrist should be. Then the Lord spake unto him and said thus:

    It behoveth that it be in the next days. Then shall be hunger and war, &c.:

    The text conforms, generally speaking, to the longer recensions. The signs of the fifth day are omitted. The conclusion diverges from the Latin and tells how the Virgin, Michael, and Peter successively intercede with the Judge, and he forgives a third part of the sinners at the prayer of each. But not all are pardoned: for we then have the sentences: Venite benedicti and Discedite maledicti as in Matt. xxv.

    Quite recently (in Proc. R.I.A.) the Rev. St. J. Seymour has pointed out the probable dependence of the Saltair na Rann (eleventh century) on our apocalypse in its description of the Signs of the End.

    The Mysterious Light of Rembrandt’s Faust

    Leaving not a record or even a name for his work, Rembrandt’s 1652 etching of a man gazing at a mysterious bright light continues to evade decisive interpretation. Referred to as first as, The Practicing Alchemist in 1679, and then later as Faust in his Study, the Rembrandt scene raises many questions. Most noticeably are the inscriptions and the sudden appearance of an apparition which causes viewers to reflect; like the man in the etching.

    Depicted in the image are a globe, human skull, books, work area, papers, and other objects which suggest the individual (along with his style of clothing), is a learned man. Although details (like whether the globe is an astronomical or geographical globe which would help to determine what type of study the man was occupied with), are left out, viewers realize he has been interrupted from his work. The vision which appears to him gains his full attention.

    From the unexpected illumination, one hand is noticed to be holding a mirror, while the other hand is pointing into it. The face of the apparition cannot be seen, as this is where the circular shape and rays emanate. Within the spherical shape, the inscriptions, INRI (central), surrounded by ADAM TE DAGERAM, and a third circular arrangement of AMRTET ALGAR ALGASTNA are written. A few cross like symbols separate the words.

    INRI is an acronym of Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum/Jesus of Nazarene, King of the Jews. This was written during the crucifixion and placed above Jesus’ head on the cross. Since stating in the Bible who was on the cross (Luke 23:38, “This is the King of Jews”), could this inscription also imply who is appearing in Rembrandt’s Faust?

    AGLA, depicted in reverse form within the outer circle, is another acronym, and means ‘You O Lord are mighty forever.’ One may wonder if it is in reverse because a person will realize the correct sequence by looking into the mirror; but only by doing so. This seems to match the instruction given by the pointing hand.

    As well as the AGLA acronym, the other inscriptions are known to be Cabbalistic writings. They were rarely known, but not unique, in the time of Rembrandt. In an article entitled, Rembrandt’s Faust in his Study (sourced below), it is said this same arrangement was included on amulets and used for protection in battles. This has lent support for the portrayal of the man in Rembrandt’s etching to be involved in more than just normal studies; since these magical items were often associated with higher and secret learning’s.
    Given that Rembrandt did not provide an account for his intended meaning of the fine etching, the image will always cause viewers to question. The mystery which surrounds the vision attracts, almost beckons, those who look upon it, to search for meaning. The mirror, the pointing hand, the man captivated by the light; the entire scene welcomes the seeker.

    To wake up to a new life again, as a snowflake-twin, asking: 'Love me too!'
    Eternal life awaits the living, could they only reply to the dead's request.
    But the alive ones linger and doubt, in vanity do they live their only quest.
