COMET ALERT: C/2022 E3 (ZTF), visitor from the outer reaches of our solar system,
is now making its closest approach to Earth and should be brightest in early February 2023.

Look to the northern sky in late night to pre-dawn hours search for a faint greenish glow;
it will appear “fuzzy” and help you distinguish it from stars.

If your skies are clear enough, you should be able to see the faint green glow of the comet
with your naked eyes alone but binoculars will greatly help.

Generally, look for it between the Big Dipper and Little Dipper

The comet's closest approach to Earth happens on Feb. 1, 2023
when it will be 26 million miles away. ZTF will continue to be visible through mid-February 2023.

Why the “greenish glow”? ZTF has a bright green glow around its nucleus due to sunlight’s effect
on its molecules, especially diatomic carbon and cyanogen

Best to get a glimpse now as it won’t return for another 50,000 years.
