THE SUN ENTERS ARIES: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

On Monday March 20th at 5:24 P.M. EDT
we enter the New Year.

This is the beginning of the zodiac, and while I try to celebrate all New Year’s,
including January 1st, 2023, the Chinese New Year, the Jewish, and Muslim,
this is the one I believe makes the most sense.

But then, I am an astrologer.

This is a time to begin things; to make plans and set your sights on the year ahead.

It’s the time when nature renews, when we bid farewell to the long, dark winter
and look forward to spring.

I look forward to this day every year.

Maybe our plans won’t work out exactly as we had hoped,
and some may wind up in the trash.

But there is a sense of renewal and excitement about spring.

Yes, the weather will still be iffy for some time.

I remember huge snowstorms in April.

But even those had a gentler and forgiving atmosphere
than the January and February storms that just seemed relentless and unending.

Now we know that whatever is thrown at us will soon be gone, a
nd the soothing calm of May and June are right around the corner.

I often go out to the beach in late March or early April,
even as the wind pushes back against my waterfront trek.

I know it’s just nature giving one last blast of winter as it lets go
and we move into the best of the year.

Plan for the future and set your sights on
what you wish to accomplish in the spring.

Renew old relationships, and share in the hope
and promise that nature gives us.

The cycle is endless, and it’s time for a fresh start.

Here we are at the Spring Equinox,
the moment of the Solar New Year
when the Sun exalts in Aries
and the light finally overcomes the dark
and becomes the ruler for half of the year.

Aries is Cardinal Fire - the spark that ignites new life
and the driving impulse from which it is created.

Though I am weary from the weeks
that lay behind me
I see the signs of rebirth around me.

New beginnings are glimmering.

Old chapters are concluding.

As I look back and reflect in this brief moment of equilibrium
between light and dark I honor all that has come before which has led me to here and now.

The good, the bad, and the ugly, it all deserves my gratitude.

Equally.

That which has caused me pain has served me growth.

That which has caused pain in others serves to show me a better way.

That which I can't control has served to teach me surrender and grace.

Somedays I am better at recognizing these lessons and gifts than others.

Somedays I am a shitty human and need to remember
to save some of that grace for myself.

The past does not need to define us.

One of the great gifts of the present moment
is that anything and everything can change in an instant.

Including me.

And you.

The World.

We are about to witness so much change everywhere we look.

Within and without.

It may feel like the end of the world but remember:

Hope Springs Eternal.
