Total Lunar Eclipse in Bharani: The Portal of Life & Death

Whew! Things have certainly been intense in this two week window since our partial solar eclipse!

This is because while the Sun was being eclipsed
at that time, it was still pretty far from the South node doing the eclipsing.

It has been moving ever closer to Ketu, and passing right over it this past weekend,
with its serpentine tail stabbing right into the heart of our power.

This can look like power shortages, or resets, phones, computers and other electronics shorting,
powerful entities and establishments being eclipsed, and certainly we are each being given very old lessons
on how we hold our own innate sense of power, particularly in the context of relationships with others.

This can also feel a lot like being powerless, which can actually be a beautiful surrender if we allow it to be.

The Moon will be directly across from our Sun at 1:02 am HT (3:02 am PST)
but the eclipse itself will last from 10:02 pm HT November 7th until -1:56 am HT November 8th (12:02 am-3:56 am Nov 8th PDT),
so we will definitely be seeing it here in Hawaii!

It is called a Blood Moon because of the red color it takes on at the height of the eclipse,
which is at 12:59 am HT. How fitting that this Moon is in Bharani, the star that is ruled by the god of death,
Yama, who brings souls out of this life, and symbolized by the yoni, the portal through which life passes into this world.

It can get bloody indeed! This star requires the utmost control as here we must bear the consequences
    of anything we create.

This is problematic, as Rahu the North Node doing the eclipsing has an airy and dispersive quality
that sprays our energy out into many different directions.

Since the Moon is our mind and emotions, and therefore the creator of our very reality,
we can imagine how this might look! Pranayama, breath control practices can be helpful here,
as well as safe outlets for creativity like art, dance and music.

While Ketu is finding exactly the malfunctioning source of our power in Libra,
Rahu is obsessing over our emotions in Aries.

The South node implodes where we have not been looking, the North node explodes the place we have been fixating on.

The magnification can cause quite a lot of delusion, particularly if you haven’t been doing the work to really see
what are the ways in which you compromise with others.

Some of us over-compromise and have trouble getting our own needs met.

Some of us do whatever we want to and have trouble seeing how it affects others.

If you are prone to selfish or self-centered behavior, then this entire eclipse portal is a wake up call
that others are not going to take it anymore.

If you give in too much and sacrifice your true feelings and needs to be liked, well,
you may recognize that this is not the answer either as your needs continue to not get met.

Full Moons take us on a swing of the pendulum in any given New Moon cycle,
shining light on the opposite of what we have been doing in that cycle.

In this case, with the nodes involved, we have activated an area of life
that we were actively trying to avoid since March 2022.

The Full Moon is highlighting where we have been choosing to put our energy instead this whole time.

The close proximity to Rahu is going to cause us to see things very different from how they actually are.

The nodes are illusory, Chaya Graha (shadow planets) that can be very powerful messengers from the past
and future if we maintain a clear state of consciousness but regardless, they are never completely at home in this reality.

Be mindful of your emotions and allowing them to carry you to conclusions.

The focus on Self here can really undermine your relationships with others.

If you do not know what area of your life Rahu and Ketu are transiting right now, please sign up for my email list at: http://www.alexiscoxyoga.com/forecasts and receive your FREE report on this Blood Moon Lunar eclipse
for each of the 12 Rising signs! ”.

This will tell you exactly what houses are “up” for you in this eclipse, so you can better navigate the energies.

You will also receive 3 other helpful transit reports, specific to YOU and your sign!

    We have Mercury in almost exact degrees with the Sun right now, so we may be experiencing communication difficulties;
feeling unheard, lapses in communication and forms of technology malfunctioning.

It is also near Ketu, so if we focus on the heart of what we are trying to communicate it can be quite precise,
even if we do not feel that those in positions of power over us are hearing us.

Venus is also here, in her own sign and helping our debilitated Sun use friendliness and grace to naviagate
our feelings of powerlessness, instead of getting triggered.

We really have an opportunity to bring an internal drishti (gaze) to our patterns and habits
around how we use communication in relationships, especially in regards to our perceived lack of power.

Saturn is giving his one way dristhi to this stellium in Libra, also in close degrees,
particularly to Venus and he is also in his own sign, so we are being reminded to stay the course
in our relationships, be committed, humble and willing to do the hard work.

We are also being reminded of the ways in which our relationships help us with our status
and recognition and holding appropriate fear that our harsh words
or disgust with others can cause real damage in our lives.

This is important, because otherwise, we may get so obsessed with our own feelings
that we burn bridges we may still need to cross.

With Mars Retrograde still barely in Gemini until Nov 13th, 2022
and joined the Moon exactly on November 11th, 2022

we need to be careful that past anger doesn’t agitate our mental state too much.

Between Ketu on Mercury, and the Sun and this Mars,

there is a lot of past resentment and disgust that can surface in our communication if we are not mindful.

It is important to take deep breaths before you speak…
and learn to take ownership and apologize if you lose control and go too far.

Singing is one of the best ways to bridge the heart and the throat chakras and may be the best remedy for this particular alignment.

    Prayer and mantra too.

This can be a great learning moment for us all, if we allow it to be.

May peace be with you and around you and especially within you!

Blessed Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse

Here's a lovely poetic astrology offering from Mystic Mamma:

    "SUN and MOON

    (our star crossed lovers)

    align with EARTH

    same orbital plane

    she turns red

    a moment of TOTALITY

    :::

the secret is in the timing

    we've been circling

    the edges of our time

    but now we align

    in the center

    knowing we are held within

    the heart of the earth

    we've been here before

    but now we must walk

right into the center of us

    we've circumvented the depths

    but now they are overflowing

    from within us

    we are being shown

    what has been hidden

    and in these tender moments

    our hearts are strengthened

    as we meet ourselves

    with every current

    and at every turning IN

    a sympathetic resonance

    with our human experience

    the cyclical RETURNING

    the continuous shedding

of all the forms that we build

    to encase and protect

what is guiding each of our steps

    is the absolute undiluted

    essence of who we are

like holy seeds of holy longing

    watered throughout the seasons

    of our lives

    roots deepen unseen

beneath the surface of the earth

before we can see any evidence

    all of the miraculous workings

that by the most precise coordinates

    must come together

    so we risk the budding

    to unfurl

    the fruit

This is a global event happening at the same time for all observers, but local time will depend on your location, which you can find out on TimeandDate.com(opens in new tab).

According to NASA, the partial lunar eclipse begins November 8(opens in new tab) at 4:44 a.m. EST (0844 GMT). Lunar totality — the Blood Moon phase — begins on November 8 at 05:17 a.m EST (0917 GMT) and ends at 6:42 a.m. EST (1042 GMT). A partial eclipse will then be visible until 8:05 a.m. EST (1205 GMT). Note that the faint penumbral moon phase of the eclipse will begin about an hour before the first partial eclipse and end about an hour after the second partial eclipse.
Throughout the entire event, it will also be possible to see the seventh planet Uranus close to the eclipsed moon(opens in new tab). In parts of Asia — including Hong Kong(opens in new tab) — Uranus will be briefly hidden behind the moon during totality.

Read our guides on how to photograph a lunar eclipse, as well as how to photograph the moon with a camera for some helpful tips to plan out your lunar photo session.
This will be the second and final lunar eclipse in 2022. The last one took place on May 16, 2022. There will also be two lunar eclipses in 2023, though they won't be nearly as impressive a spectacle. The first on May 5 to 6, 2023 is a faint penumbral lunar eclipse visible from southern and eastern Europe, Antarctica, most of Asia, Australia, Africa as well as the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans.
The second will be a slight partial lunar eclipse on Oct. 28 to 29, 2023 visible at least partly from Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, northern and eastern South America, the Arctic, Antarctica and the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.
Here are some tips to help you get the most out of the November 8 total lunar eclipse.
WHAT TIME IS THE BLOOD MOON?

What you'll see during the total lunar eclipse entirely depends on where you observe it from. A schedule specific to your location(opens in new tab) is available on TimeandDate.com. Here's when to see the phases of the total lunar eclipse from North America (all times are for November 8, 2022):

It's worth getting outside at least an hour before totality to watch the partial lunar eclipse. As the moon begins to enter Earth's dark central (umbral) shadow it turns dark and, gradually, grows reddish.
WHERE TO WATCH THE LUNAR ECLIPSE ONLINE

There are several livestreams of the event scheduled for YouTube, embedded below.
First up is Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, which will begin livestreaming views through telescopes at 2:00 a.m. MST on November 8 (4:00 a.m. EST and 0800 GMT on November 8) on the Lowell Observatory YouTube channel(opens in new tab). Lowell Historian Kevin Schindler and Moon expert John Compton will host, with totality at 4:00 a.m. MST (6:00 a.m. EST and 1000 GMT).
There is also a broadcast scheduled by TimeandDate.com which is available on their website(opens in new tab) and YouTube channel. It plans to broadcast the entire event from its mobile observatory in Roswell, New Mexico and take live feeds from San Diego, California and from Perth in Western Australia. The broadcast is scheduled to start at 4:00 a.m. EST (0800 GMT).
Astronomical science and education service the Virtual Telescope Project will livestream views of the event from around the world on its WebTV page. The online, free lunar total eclipse session is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. EST (0830 GMT) and will include astro-imagers from the U.S., Canada, Australia and India. It's presented by astrophysicist Gianluca Masi at the Virtual Telescope Project.
There will likely be more webcasts as we get closer to the November 8 event. We'll share those on Space.com in a dedicated webcast guide as we learn more.
WHY IS A BLOOD MOON RED?

Despite its nickname, a totally eclipsed moon looks an orangey-copper reddish color and not a blood-red color.
During a total lunar eclipse, a full moon passes first into the penumbra or fuzzy outer shadow of Earth (remaining gray, but getting darker) and then enters Earth's umbra or deep central shadow. The only sunlight reaching the moon passes through Earth's atmosphere, which turns the lunar surface red because of Rayleigh scattering. Red, orange and yellow light have the longest wavelengths, so these light waves strike few particles as they travel through Earth's atmosphere compared to blue light, which has shorter wavelengths. The more dust or clouds in Earth's atmosphere during the eclipse, the redder the Moon will appear, according to NASA(opens in new tab).
It's rather as if thousands of sunsets and sunrises are being reflected by the moon.
Penumbral eclipses are much more subtle. They occur when a full moon passes only through the much lighter penumbra shadow of Earth. The moon's darkening is obvious compared to the glare of a full moon, but it's not a particularly dramatic change. The moon does not turn red during a penumbral lunar eclipse.
WHERE IS THE LUNAR ECLIPSE VISIBLE?

NASA's map showing where the November 8, 2022 lunar eclipse will be visible. (Image credit: NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio)
    (opens in new tab)
This total lunar eclipse will be visible in North America and parts of South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, but as you can see from the visibility diagrams, what you see — and when you see it — entirely depends on where you are located.
Only the partial phases will be visible from Iceland, parts of South America, south and central Asia and Russia, while just the penumbral phases will be visible from eastern Brazil and Argentina, northern Scandinavia and the Middle East. Europe and Africa are on the day-side of the planet during this eclipse and will not observe anything.
    LUNAR ECLIPSE VIEWING TIPS

Unlike a solar eclipse, which requires certified eclipse glasses, an eclipse of the moon is completely safe to look at with your naked eyes. Also unlike a solar eclipse, the totality phase lasts much more than just a few minutes.
Related: How to observe the sun safely (and what to look for)
The lunar eclipse on November 8, 2022, will take several hours, with the partial eclipse lasting about an hour on either side of an 85 minutes-long 'Blood Moon' totality.
The penumbral phases are interesting, but we recommend you're outside to see the start of the partial phase. As well as it being an interesting event in itself that will also help get your eyes adjusted to the darkness ahead of totality.
Equipment such as cameras, telescopes and binoculars may need a few hours to adjust to the different temperatures and humidity outside, so bring them out as soon as possible to avoid issues with dew.
Astrophotographers will want to consult our guide on how to photograph a lunar eclipse. Make sure to practice before the big event to make sure all your settings are correct and that you are comfortable with the process.
When you're outside, make sure you dress for the weather and do what you can to feel comfortable for the event. Lawn chairs, hydration and keeping bright phones or flashlights away will maximize the pleasure of the eclipse.
    WHAT CAUSES LUNAR ECLIPSES?

During a lunar eclipse the sun, Earth and moon align so that Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon and casts a shadow across the lunar surface. Whether the moon sits in the penumbra or umbra will dictate the type of lunar eclipse. During a total lunar eclipse, the umbra completely covers the lunar surface. In this diagram, the moon is located in the penumbral shadow so it is experiencing a penumbral eclipse. (Image credit: Future)
    (opens in new tab)
Lunar eclipses occur when a full moon passes into the shadow of the Earth. Since the Earth and the moon have slightly tilted orbits to each other, this happens generally a couple of times a year when the tilts of the orbits align during a full moon. Depending on how that happens, you may get a penumbral, partial or total eclipse.
Partial eclipses occur when the moon goes partially into the umbra, or deeper shadow, of our planet. The moon will also not turn red, but you will see a dark "bite" out of the visible surface, which represents the Earth's shadow.
Penumbral eclipses happen when the moon skirts into the lighter shadow of the Earth. This type of eclipse is sometimes hard to see, as the moon will only grow slightly darker. It also will not turn red.
During a total lunar eclipse, all three types of lunar eclipse are seen as phases as the full moon travels through the center of Earth's shadow in space.
WHEN IS THE NEXT LUNAR ECLIPSE?

In 2023 there are two lunar eclipses to look forward to. On May 5 to 6 of that year a penumbral lunar eclipse will be visible, at least partially, from southern and eastern Europe, Antarctica, most of Asia, Australia, Africa as well as the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans.
The second and final lunar eclipse of 2023, a partial, will occur on Oct. 28 to 29. This eclipse will be visible at least partially from Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, northern and eastern South America, the Arctic, Antarctica and the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.
Following a penumbral lunar eclipse on March 25, 2024, and a partial lunar eclipse on September 18, 2024, the next total lunar eclipse will occur on March 14, 2025. The total phase will be visible from North America, South America and the Pacific, with some of the phases visible from Europe, Africa and Asia.

Eclipses are noted for being the most electrical, mystical and transformational times of the year.

There is currently a tremendous amount of cosmic activity occurring that is affecting us all, which might feel quite contradictory at times. One minute we may be overwhelmed with loving emotions, and the next, the opposite - as, while this is a rational, logical and earthy Taurus Full Moon, it is also carrying extremely intense Scorpio energies. So much so that this eclipse will almost feel like a potent, passionate and mysterious Scorpio Full Moon

'With this Full Moon being a total eclipse it is supercharged and will be pulling in the energies, not just from the past 6 months, but going back at l
east 18 months, and even as far back as 9 years or further.
The accumulation of all this energy hitting our planet will be impacting us strongly, not just on a personal level, but also collectively. This can make us feel far more exhausted than normal, especially as our sleep pattern might have fallen out of sync these past few days. It is highly possibly we might also be more irritable, anxious and maybe even aggressive when this energy peaks, so it is vital we take time out to rest, stay hydrated and ground our energy whenever possible.

Eclipses are cosmic redirections, and are renowned for being unpredictable and somewhat chaotic, to the extent that they can suddenly, without prior warning, turn our entire lives around. The most important thing to remember during this eclipse is ‘expect the unexpected’, as it is unlikely anything will go as predicted or planned.

This lunar energy is going to wildly shake things up before flipping everything up in the air and once it starts to settle the picture becomes much clearer - and unfortunately not everyone will be be welcoming this turnaround of events. Anything that has run its course, that is no longer resonating or serving a higher purpose will likely come to a close, with possibly something new and far more positive and appealing swiftly taking its place.

We will be deep in our emotions during this eclipse and we may feel compelled to release the internal tension. We are going to feel the desire to speak our truth - so it is worth being cautious as this could make or break certain relationships. During a regular full moon, it can be quite normal to impulsively communicate how we are feeling, as energetically there is an intense push and pull of emotions, which can overspills. However, it is important to be aware that eclipses are drastically different.

When transiting eclipse energy we can quite literally see relationships, beliefs, feelings, thought patterns, habits, leaders or even careers, totally eclipsed out of our lives. One minute everything can seem in order, or secure, and the next it can seemingly vanish, and often there is no option to reverse or rectify the situation. The Universe sweeps in and in a flash, for reasons that aren’t always clear at the time, something that was once in our reality and that we believed to be true, held close or had a grip on, is gone.

Collectively we are going through a major period of evolution, recognising the need to find better ways of coping with major change, in particular how we communicate when change does or doesn’t go the way we had hoped. It is clear to see how divisions break out when varying viewpoints are being thrown around, or when we don’t try to empathetically understand why other people don’t share the same opinions, values or understanding as ourselves. One of the biggest challenges we will face is not taking it personally when others think, feel, want or believe very differently to ourselves.

While everything is changing, it is essential we remind ourselves that everything is happening for a higher purpose, and that it may twist and turn but eventually the course will shift humanity to the next level. Even though we may feel disorientated and life might feel chaotic over the next 48 hours, it won’t be long before we see why everything had to take place in a particular sequence, and what valuable lessons we are all learning along the way.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be releasing old and outdated thought patterns and preconceived notions that have been passed from generation to generation and that we have, sometimes stubbornly, held strong to. Whenever an eclipse takes anything away, it always replaces it with something better, and this is when Taurus’ patience comes in, as the internal and external transformation from these shifts will not happen overnight.

This energy is going to ask us to remain grounded in the face of adversity, and to remain calm if things start to feel like they are tipping off balance. It is vital to remember that whatever is unfolding is the accumulation of a variety of things far beyond our control.
The background energy to this eclipse is fixed, meaning, in typical Taurus energy, no matter how much we try to force things, they simply won’t budge. In fact, if anything, the more we attempt to force a different outcome, the harder the crash back to reality is going to be. If ever there was a time to keep both feet on the ground, and remain level headed and most of all, compassionate, it is now.

An illumination is taking place, shining a light on some difficult truths, which could bring both inner and outer turmoil. It is possible that something we weren’t able to see clearly two weeks ago during the solar eclipse is now coming fully into focus, and we will no longer be blindsided or kept in the dark.

The revelations coming through over the next few days will likely be life-changing, so it is worth remaining alert and aware and to be prepared that the news we receive may alter life as we know it. Everything is playing out exactly as it is meant to, so it is necessary to trust in the process and keep moving forward.

We may have been experiencing flashbacks recently, which have led to us reminiscing or revisiting old traumas or wounds from many years ago that have not quite healed. It is possible this nostalgia makes us want to reach out and repair relationships that once were, or still are, immensely important to us.

Alternatively, we could also find our healing comes in the form of making peace with the past by coming to a place of acceptance that endings and beginnings are sometimes unavoidable aspects of life. As painful as endings are, we don’t always receive the closure we feel we need and not all wounds completely heal, but we can still continue onward.

Whatever we have been manifesting (for instance, relocating or planning a new career move) may now quickly come to fruition, and we will receive an abundance of opportunities that help us create a fresh, positive, and exciting new start. This Full Moon not only brings to an end things we have been going through for the last six months, it is also kickstarts a new eclipse season and six-month chapter that runs until the next eclipse begins on April 20, 2023. A new theme is beginning, so it is vital to keep our thoughts positive and focus on what we want to materialise in the near future.
Overall, this Full Moon is a major reset and within a 2-3 days we will rise feeling empowered, liberated, renewed, recharged, regenerated and ready to begin over.
