The BEST Advice I've Ever Received.

Without a doubt, the best piece of advice I've ever received was from my Dad
when I was 15 years old.

At the time, I was a budding hockey player and wanted to make the big leagues.

Like all the kids playing hockey from the area, I dreamed of making it big.

At the time I was playing hockey in Blind River
but I "heard" that if I wanted to make it to higher levels of hockey
I had to go to larger urban centres like the Soo or Sudbury.

So I made the decision to go and try out for a team in the Soo.

One Saturday afternoon I approached my Dad. I said,
"Dad, what do you think about me playing hockey in the Soo?"

He looks at me and says "Why do you want to play in the Soo?".

To which I replied "I want to get seen by other coaches and maybe even scouts,
    I can't do that here".

He looks at me for a minute and says
"So, you don't think you can get seen here in Blind River?".

I said, "No, not really it's not big enough".

He looked at me and he said "I'm gonna tell you something.

You don't need to go to the Soo or Sudbury, or Toronto or wherever to get seen.

I want you to listen closely. If you work hard enough, get good enough,
it doesn't matter where you go, THEY will find you."

The way my Dad put it was that it I showed up every day,
put in the work and got good at it, THEY would find me regardless
if I was in Blind River or not.

At the time, I didn't quite understand what he meant but as time went on,
    those words sank in.

My Dad was an accomplished hockey player
and the hardest working guy I knew so he knew what it took.

He knew that if I wanted to get a shot, I had to make it happen.

The thing is, this applies to all aspects of life.

It doesn't matter if it's hockey, school, work, or business.

    - If you study hard enough, you will graduate and "They" will look for you to hire.

    - If you work hard and do an outstanding job
"They" will look for you and offer you higher paying positions.

    - If you create a great product and work hard at selling,
"They" will look for your product and buy from you.

    - If you stay consistent, make improvements week after week
you will lose weight and get into the best shape of your life!

I understand now that it's not about looking for an opportunity
and "hoping" it happens. It's not about wishing, hoping
or waiting for something to happen.

    It's about making it happen.

It's about investing and creating your most valuable asset which of course, is "you".

You create the opportunity by showing up every day,
putting in the work and improving every chance you get.

It's about realizing that dreams happen but only if you put in the work,
show up every day and never, ever give up.

Use those wise words from my Dad and keep striving to reach your goals.

Keep moving forward, keep improving and never give up.

Remember, you create the opportunity so invest in yourself and work like hell!
