Hickory Dickory Dock ~ Exeter Cathedral ~ Cat Door
Huge Door with a cat hole...
this is THE DOOR that sits below The Astronomical Clock...
this hole was cut in it between the year of 1598 & 1621,
to allow access for the cathedral cat.
    - The Cathedral Cat was paid 1d per week in food
    when on mouse/rat catching duties
    - so, this was the prototype to a cat-flap.
The Mice, as, well as The Rats were attracted
to the animal fat used as lubricant for the clock.
This is thought to be the origin of the nursery rhyme
    "Hickory Dickory Dock".
