On this date 1959 July 2 (Toronto Star)

The Star Weekly’s first All-Canadian home was officially
opened last night and had a send-off fit for a Queen.

Probably the most distinguished-looking group of mayors
and reeves ever gathered to open a home rolled up to Etobicoke’s
Beaumonde Heights shortly after 6 p.m. in a sleek, black motorcade...

To cap the opening, Etobicoke Reeve Ozzie WAFFLE
in his opening remarks was interrupted momentarily
by none other than the Queen and Prince Phillip.

The plane carrying the royal couple out of Toronto flew almost directly
over the ceremony and forced everyone’s attention to the sky.

Reeve Waffle declared the first home officially open at 6:24
    and congratulated the Star Weekly,
    prize-winning architect Harry B. KOHL
    of Toronto.

Mr. Kohl told the 100 persons attending, the house represented more
than the development of a modern design.

Rather it signaled the introduction of delight into the physical environment
and out of which could be expected the development of a happy society.

Then the reeves, mayors and their wives filed through the home.

Reeve Marie CURTIS took one look at a stairway on entering the home
and saw the solution to a problem she was having in her own home…
Weston Mayor Jack HOLLEY and his wife were especially impressed
    with the three bedrooms.

The women especially were delighted with the basic color schemes
against the light furnishings, giving a light roomy feel to the home.

One of the children’s bedrooms featuring a large bookcase and desk space
was thought ideal for growing teenagers…

Canadians from coast to coast contributed their ideas to the home
in a national poll…”bi-nuclear” concept which splits the home
into a quiet, sleeping section, and a livelier living section….

Guests included 8 suburban reeves and mayors and Colonel Blake TEDMAN,
aide de camp of Lt. Gov. Keiller MACKAY, and their wives…

The new home, built by Regency Homes,
can be seen daily at Albion Rd. and Kipling Ave.
